What is worth choosing
In the landscape of health and wellness options in Pennsylvania, Chippewa Martial Arts stands out for its holistic approach and commitment to community. Choosing a place for your or your child's physical and personal development is a significant decision. Chippewa Martial Arts provides an environment where these two aspects are deeply intertwined. The school’s focus on building self-esteem, discipline, and friendship alongside self-defense skills is a major reason why many families find value here. A grandparent's review from October 2023 highlights this, noting that their grandchild is learning these key life skills while also having fun and being kept "very engaged." The review also praises the instructor, Ms. Detz, for her wonderful teaching style and her efforts to involve students in community events.
However, it is also important to consider all available feedback when making a choice. Another customer's experience, detailed in a separate review, describes a challenging situation involving their son. The parent claims their son, who had been attending classes for two years, faced unfair treatment on multiple occasions, including instances where he was allegedly targeted by other children and was made to feel at fault for his reactions. The review states that the instructor, Mrs. Detz, ultimately decided the son should not return to class. The parent believes this decision broke their son's heart and suggests that the lack of discipline for the other children and the handling of the situation were disappointing. This review raises questions about conflict resolution and inclusivity, particularly noting the son’s different ethnic background from the majority of the class. It is vital for potential students and parents to weigh these diverse experiences to make an informed decision that aligns with their personal values and needs.
Ultimately, the choice of a martial arts school is a personal one. Chippewa Martial Arts offers many positive aspects, including a focus on character development, community involvement, and a fun learning environment, as described by one grateful family. At the same time, another family's experience highlights potential issues with conflict management and inclusion. This mixed feedback provides a fuller picture, allowing you to consider whether the school's teaching style and community ethos align with what you are seeking for your or your child's well-being.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Since Oct. 2023 my grandchild has been taking classes at Chippewa Martial Arts. He is learning self esteem, discipline, friendship and self defense. Ms. Detz is a wonderful teacher, who is great with the children. She keeps them very engaged. The children always have so much fun while learning a lot. Also she teaches the student to be involved within the community by giving back with special events.Thank you Ms. Detz for all you do with your students and community!!!
August 21 · d morrowMy son attended these classes for 2 yrs. He does not have the same ethnical or financial standing as the majority of the other children. My son was treated unfairly on numerous occasions. Much older larger children were permitted to throw balls at my son’s face. My son was made out to be “dramatic” for reacting like a normal 10yr old would after being hit by a large 13 yr old black belt leader. My son was made out to be “hysterical “ when a disabled child was permitted to throw water on in his face. Nothing was ever done to the other children, my son was always at fault. He was sent home early by the instructor from camp that we paid for, and Mrs Detz the instructor/ owner falsely stated that my son “wanted” to leave, which was not true. Mrs. Detz then said for Isaac not to return to the class he had been attending for 2 yrs and had worked so hard in. Instead of Mrs Detz redirecting the other children with some discipline, teaching the kids in her class some respect towards other people who don’t look the same as they do, or finding a solution to the chaos interfering with my sons lessons, she instead broke my sons heart to pieces by kicking him out of the class. My son had friends in that class after 2 years and is extremely upset over the news. Someone who would rather break a kids heart instead of being an adult and finding a solution is not someone I would want teaching my kids anything . My son was the only male in the class with a different race, and I’m starting to believe that may have been the real issue.
August 14 · Heidi McDonaldCompassion, inclusion and tollerance...only a few of the values that Dawn Detz teaches and drives at this GTMA institution. Thank you Dawn for creating a safe place for our kids to learn and grow. Summer Camp was rated 100000/10 by my son!
August 14 · Amanda WooleyMy son was reluctant to come here after being at another studio that moved too far for us. Chippewa ATA is less than a mile from our house, so we decided to give it a shot.Let me just say that he loves it so much more than his former studio. He’s always excited to go, he’s happy and energetic in class, and he’s always in a great mood after class. He really has pushed himself to rank up. He gets along really well with the other kids in his class, and the instructors and student helpers are wonderful. He’s learned so much in a short amount of time, and seeing him so happy there makes me so happy. I’m excited to continue to watch his growth and his confidence continue to grow!
April 21 · Rachel AquinoI have loved this academy and the material since I was little! It’s great for teaching discipline and respect. I also really recommend it for kids who have trouble enjoying most sports.
