★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've only been there a month and I already love it. The teachers are extremely supportive and helpful, as are the students too! They encourage you to go at your pace and not hurt yourself. The prices are also very reasonable. I love it so much! Thank you for the amazing experience already!
August 27 · Soren"I don't want to be a victim.I don't have to be a victim. You can't make me a victim.I can defend myself."These are the lessons I am learning at The Open Spaces Martial Arts studio. The first lesson Master Ben Thompson taught me is that by being observant and aware of my surroundings, it is possible to avoid a confrontation. In the event that does not defuse the situation, I am learning to defend myself. I appreciate Master Thompson's patience. To paraphrase a comment from his Tai Chi class, "I am not bad at self-defense. I am new to it." When I make a mistake, he patiently shows me what works better. One of my assignments is to "play" with the moves I am learning. I bought an inflatable sparing partner, so it would be easier for me to practice. The photo is me "playing" at home.
June 07 · Pat TrunickMy daughter and I have been taking TaeKwon-Do classes for some time now. She’s a pretty anxious kid and Master Thompson is fabulous with her.I’ve also been taking self-defense to keep from getting my butt kicked, and functional fitness- to get my butt kicked. Self- defense is practical and thorough. Functional fitness incorporates techniques that have helped me gain functional mobility- moving without pain in a broader range of motion.I highly recommend The Open Space for both kiddos and adults.Update:A bit further along the path now, and I’ve seen my kiddo successfully go through her first belt testing- not a small thing for an anxious kiddo to do! She’s giggling now when implementing techniques that were intimidating a couple months ago.I’ve been very much appreciating the sense of community at The Open Space. It’s a very welcoming environment. People who aren’t good people don’t tend to hang around. I’ve referred many people and seen others refer their friends. It’s a pleasure to see the community grow! Another mom told me recently how she’s just felt so welcomed. This is fairly unique to me among activities I’ve been involved in around North Canton!
March 26 · Gretchen MillerMaster Ben hosted our Girl Scout troop for a self defense class. I would highly recommend! His expertise is unmatched. My girls took away valuable information and learned a lot!
April 27 · Makenzie SmithMy daughter attends the 8-12 TaeKwon-Do class and absolutely loves it. Master Thompson is an incredible teacher. Equal parts fun and serious. 11 out of 10 highly recommend! If you're looking for a good program look no further!
