★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My son started the Rock Solid Kids program at 4.5 years old and it has tremendously boosted his confidence in his own physical abilities. The instructors and staff are top-notch, personally and professionally, and I'm really picky about who any of my son's teachers will be. The atmosphere and people are welcoming and unpretentious; it's fun to be there. My son has opportunities to make friends with kids of various ages who share an interest with him and that has been healthy for his social development. I'm confident that he is not only learning to defend himself, he's learning a philosophy and a form of art.
January 13 · Maije MaskarovMy family recently joined The MAT Center for both mental and physical well being. We couldn't be more happy with all the Senseis who share their wisdom and experiences. All of the members of The MAT Center have been awesome with assisting with our development in Aikido. In addition, The MAT center creates a great communal environment where everyone takes care of each other.
July 27 · Eddy JacksonMr. Garcia was our daughter's instructor for 10 years. She is now away at college and their picture together at the end of a belt test, remains on our refrigerator. If you are looking for a world class role model for your children, there is no other like Mr. Garcia. He IS that person that you and your children will remember as the most dedicated positive influence of their childhood.Craig and Veronica Gilbert
January 16 · Craig GilbertMy kids and I love The Mat. The Aiikido, Jujitsu, and kids’ programs are outstanding. The instructors are all kind, caring and invested in each student’s success. We highly recommend this school!
January 13 · angela BrummeI have been a student of Michael Black's for over three years, and my son has been a student of his dojo for a little longer than that. My son is autistic and we took a chance in hopes of finding a place that would teach him martial arts so help him with his focus. Michael Black was generous in welcoming him to his kids program, and within a couple months we saw definite improvements in his concentration. The MAT Center offers a kids program that teaches a combination of martial arts techniques: Aikido, Jiu Jistu and Karate taught by experts in these arts. This combination of martial arts offer children a well rounded approach to self defense, and for my son a varied approach. It has been a very positive experience for him.The adults are offered classes in Aikido and Jiu Jitsu in the MAT Center. I have been studying Aikido all this time, but have also seen and heard great things about the other class. I am in my late 40's and overweight. However in spite of this I have been able to progress among the ranks. I can roll and tumble as good (sometimes better) than many of the younger students. I have learned very practical techniques that would be valuable in any conflict situation. Not just self defense, but how a situation can be defused before it starts.I didn't start taking martial arts for self defense. I took it to train my body and mind (and spirit) to work as one, and I have accomplished much in this aspect. I have better balance and poise. My self control is stronger. I dare say my awkward movements are more graceful. All this I have the MAT Center to thank for. If you are looking for martial arts training that goes beyond just learning to protect yourself (and you should) this is the place to go.
