★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Not too sure about the quality of martial arts services, but this person definitely tried everything in their power to run me off of the road on my way to a VA appointment in advance of surgery from 21 years of service. Got DV and a bronze star medal in my plates - this person still went out of their way to try to run me off the road and put me in unsafe situations at multiple junctures. Just to attempt to be a bully. Not too sure what makes someone act that hateful. They clearly don’t care about my PTSD or service. DO NOT go here. I’ll be reporting them.Probably not a spot you want to be going or taking your loved ones if their values include trying to intentionally hurt others.Update: what does being a client have to do with being ran off the road by the person that clearly goes to this establishment. Only vehicle in the front suggests it is the ownership that did it and owns this vehicle. It was an older caucasian woman driving. This specific vehicle in the photo - TX - NRY8264 license plate.I shouldn’t have to be a client (current or former) to be treated like a human being and have my space and safety respected on some level. Just thought that folks should know clients and/or ownership of this establishment support and condone trying to kill and injure veterans on the road. I hope it is taken seriously. This is not the last time that person will be hearing from me.
July 23 · Ryan WilliamsLong post...We stayed my youngest son in this karate studio when he was in kindergarten. Things started off great..my son was loving it..but as time passed, we noticed that what was once fun, was starting to not become fun anymore for him. The instructor, who was very lax, at first, and I don't mean just be abuse they were "beginners"..but was lax til my son got his red belt..and then the Instructor started criticizing how my son did his trainings..staying hiw he didn't think he was ready for a junior black belt test..yet, all the while before this..he never said anything against how my son was performing..my son felt defeated because he had never been told, before, that he was doing anything wrong. One time, after the instructor had been hospitalized for a brain bleed, my son politely corrected him..because my son had remembered what the instructor said they were gonna do on a particular day, and my son was simply reminding him..he stated.."I'm the instructor, you're the student"..my son was so confused about why the instructor got upset.Things just weren't the same once the instructor came back from his hospital stayMy son decided to stop going, right before the junior black belt testing because the instructor kept telling him that he may not pass the test...my thought is..after they each got their white belt..the training should've been as though they were training for a black belt..with all kicks, punches, turns and positions criticized in the correct way so that all kids learn correctly all along. For the first few years, I would've rated this place with 5 stars..but later on, we really disliked going...it almost felt, sometimes, like my son was the ONLY one getting critizied..while other kids, who did the exact same thing, nothing was said to them.
July 15 · Jennifer EbertMy son loves the summer camp. This is the third year he has gone there. Lots of fun outings and activities. It's also open 7am-6pm.
July 25 · Nicole HOur 7 year old spent a year in their martial arts program and we left largely underwhelmed and unimpressed. I think 3/5 is fair considering the feedback below. The folks here are good people, but it is extraordinarily lacking in many areas.- Belt promotions seemed to be similar to participation awards, the kids rarely had to do much to actually earn it or demonstrate competence- Woefully unorganized. We were supposed to get dates for events and changes, and it was either never communicated or done last minute. We were supposed to have timelines for belt promotions but they constantly changed and weren't consistent. We were supposed to get things like videos and assisting material, never got them.- They were supposed to "practice" but were never held accountable. Basic skills were rarely corrected. With my son in particular, he never knew what he was working toward and never really knew what to practice. Maybe he'd get a bit better over time, but I saw no confidence growth.- Other children were not being held accountable for poor behavior consistently. Some had siblings that would run around and create a very distracting environment. While I understand that martial arts is not a substitution for discipline, it seemed very odd to have tiny kids running around screaming and flip flopping everywhere while trying to instruct. This was not a one time deal, but was fairly regular. There should be more rules as to the expectations of behaviors during sessions.- The studio never asked for feedback. I don't think it's my place to tell you how to run your studio, if you asked for feedback, I probably would've given it. But at the end of the day I am not there to instruct and leave it up to the professionals. Unfortunately, most instruction fell short of my expectations- The year long commitment and contract is not fair in my opinion. We got 2 trial sessions before we decided to commit to it, but at the end of the day I don't think it provided the value based on the annual price we paid.- Running this place as a daycare and camp in additional to a martial arts studio IMO is a mistake. I think this creates a large part of the disorganization and tiredness across all employees. If they just focused on martial arts I think we'd see a better return.Positives:- My son had fun most days and it was never a super serious "no fun zone"- There were some valuable self-defense lessons- Everyone that works here is respectful, I've never felt disrespected or uncomfortable here- Sessions always began on timeI was hoping for more for my son, to give him some confidence to succeed and grow, but it was nothing close to that. There was no leadership or inspiration that really gave him the drive to want to be great and do great. Maybe that's OK but it's not really what we were sold. It ended up just being a fun activity to do on weekday nights until he got bored of it. I wish everyone here the best.
February 18 · Cleveland Bledsoe Jr.My niece and nephew love going to the summer camp. They are very family oriented and patient with all children. They have so much fun going on the field trips. Highly recommend to anyone. The price is also very fair, it really helps single parents or guardians that need a little help with tight schedules and those that are trying to make ends meet by working longer hours. Thank yall for what you do!
