★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been training at Mat Chess for the summer while I’m home from college and it’s been a great experience, and one that I would recommend to anyone, no matter their level or experience.Roy’s muay Thai / kickboxing classes on Mondays and Tuesdays are amazing! They are well structured and easy to follow comprehensively, even if you have limited experience, and I definitely feel like I learned a lot and noticeably improved in a pretty short period of time because of the way the class is taught. Also, it can be a little bit intimidating to be one of the only women (or the only woman) in a martial arts class, but the instructors and students at mat chess are very welcoming and I felt very comfortable there from the first day. This is not always the case for me when starting at a new gym so I really appreciated it.I would definitely recommend training here, and I will be back next summer for sure!!
July 30 · Sophie FlorescuStopped by Seattle during my road trip and dropped in for some open mat training on Sunday. The coach, Andrew, was super helpful and really cool! Everyone there was really chill and down to earth, I had a great time! I would definitely come here again to roll :)
June 08 · PhilippeI’ve been training at Mat Chess MMA since April, and it’s been an awesome experience so far. Sean’s Wednesday 7:30pm boxing class has become one of my favorites. He breaks things down really clearly and gives helpful feedback that’s helped me improve a lot. Matt’s Muay Thai classes are also excellent. He keeps the pace solid while making sure everyone’s learning proper technique. All the coaches create a welcoming, focused environment, and I’ve felt great these past few months.
July 07 · Sooraj SambasivamDropped in today and went to the wrestling at 5:15 and then Gi class afterwards. Great environment to train, good size mat space and has showers. Andrew is super knowledgeable and is great at breaking down concepts. Good tough room to train. Jacob taught the wrestling class and it was also very technical and tough. Thank you very much for having me!
June 24 · Alexei KouminovCan’t recommend this gym enough. Great place to learn, train, and stay/get in shape. Coach Andrew and the rest of the staff are very knowledgeable and have established a positive gym culture where you can improve at every level.
