This is not just a school where students learn kicks and blocks; it is a community where character education is as important as physical training. The school has built a reputation for its dedicated and patient staff, who are committed to helping each student reach their full potential.
The true heart of UMAS Karate lies in its ability to cater to individual needs and its genuine focus on each student's well-being. A powerful testament to this is the story of a parent whose son, with ADHD and Autism, found a second home at the school. The welcoming and inclusive environment significantly enhanced his "functioning and overall well-being," a priceless outcome that speaks volumes about the quality of care and instruction. The fact that "every instructor knows each child's name" fosters a strong sense of family and belonging, making every student feel seen and valued. This personal touch is a major reason why many in the community consider it the "BEST KARATE SCHOOL IN THE AREA!"
While the commitment and positive atmosphere are undeniable, it is important for prospective students and their families to be fully informed about the financial aspects of their journey. A detailed review from a former customer shed light on the additional fees that can accumulate throughout the program. These include costs for belt graduation fees, new gear required for each belt level, and entry fees for inter-school tournaments. The review also highlighted a significant long-term commitment required after the initial one-year contract, which transitions students to a three-year contract with a down payment and higher monthly fees. This level of financial commitment is a crucial detail to be aware of and should be discussed with the school prior to enrollment to ensure it aligns with your family’s budget and long-term plans.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1BEST KARATE SCHOOL IN THE AREA!My son, who has ADHD and Autism, has found a second home at UMAS Karate. The welcoming and inclusive environment has significantly enhanced his functioning and overall well-being. Every instructor knows each child's name, making everyone feel like family. The value is unbeatable, and the growth we've seen in our son is priceless. Don't wait—enroll your child today! You won't regret it. It's the best decision we've made for our kiddo!!!
August 22 · Mirage SandersPros:-Great Staff-Patient Staff-Did I mention great staff?Cons:-Lack of full disclosure upon signing up of additional fees that you will have throughout your venture-After first year contract, you are required to sign a 3 year contract or just have to pull your kids outThat's the TL:DR version of this review. If you are still here, here is the longer breakdown. UMAS Conyers has a great staff, clean facility, and is a great environment overall. If finances are not something you have to worry about, you are set. If you are like a good portion of the world whose finances are tight, things can get a bit more complicated. Upon signing up they give you the monthly cost for your year long contract. When you sign up for this you are signing up for what they call the 'basic experience'. After a few months you will have the first belt graduation. Wonderful...except this is where the additional costs come in. You have the cost of graduation but you also have new gear to buy. Arm guards and gloves. To the tune of about 40$ if bought on Amazon, about 60$ if bought through their pro shop. With the graduation fee you are looking at about 90$ for graduation to yellow belt…this will happen again about every three months, new gear to buy, new belt. Keep in mind, without this gear, you can not graduate to the next belt. Green belt is the last set, the most costly set at about 75$ or so.Then you have the three inter school tournaments they do. Another 30$ to enter, plus 15$ for any additional segment you want to compete in. If you do board breaking you are required to pay for the boards. 3 boards will cost you 10$ through the pro shop. All of this leads me up to the biggest shocker I got. After your first year, all the work of your kids (or maybe yourself), the money invested in gear and graduations, maybe a tournament or two, you are now at the time of your renewal. Guess my surprise to learn that I couldn’t just sign on for the basic experience again. I had to sign up for an extended tier, with downpayment. The first tier is the only one I have information about at the time of this writing. It is the ‘Black Belt Experience’. Cool sounding right? Well this experience will cost you $299 down, $140 a month, for 36 months. It does allow you to attend an additional class per week, which includes the sparring and weapons classes (you would be required to buy said weapon). I don’t know about you, but 3 years is a long time to commit to. I only commit to 1 year at a time for my cable company, and that doesn’t involve having to work around my kids schedules. A lot changes in 3 years. What is most disappointing is you are left with the decision to either sign up for this 5000$ commitment or pull your kids out of the program that you’ve invested your time, money and their time in. I wasn’t the only one shocked by this as a mother who joined around the same time as me was shocked as well. If you sign up here you are signing up for a very great environment, a great school, and a great staff, but beware and prepared for charges for a lot of things and for a hefty financial and time commitment.Good things come at a cost, I get that. However in most cases you wish for that cost to be transparent at the time of sign up. Especially when it involves your kids.
October 23 · Kristine SMy son and I love UMAS Karate! Not only is the curriculum detailed and structured, but respect is a MUST! I love the self discipline and awareness this school has taught my 8 year old son. The staff is also wonderful. One day, my son was upset (about something not relating to karate) and Ms. Pascal immediately noticed. She proceeded to love on my son with kindness, patience, and comfort (and a little comedy too). My son loves coming to classes here and the Fuller’s are a wonderful family. I completely recommend!
July 17 · Natalie GeorgeMy son is 5 years old and I struggled to find a Karate school in which not only will teach my son Karate but also the key social discipline, love , kindness and respect in which my wife and I have already began teaching him at home. This school has patience and a genuine warm level of care for all their students. Since joining, I have seen a great improvement in my son’s self-discipline, self-control, respect and attention to details and to top it all off he’s been having sooooooooo much fun. Excellent School, excellent instructors!
September 14 · Steven McfarlaneBest karate school ever!! I’ve been going here for about 8 years and have loved every second. The instructors here are so welcoming and I’ve always felt like I belonged, and am even going to start a job here! My parents enrolling me was one of the best decisions they made!!
