Triangle's Best Karate (TBK) in Raleigh is a premier martial arts school that excels at both. It is more than a place to learn self-defense; it's a community where students of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to grow, both physically and personally. From traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate to practical self-defense, TBK provides a comprehensive program designed to help children and adults alike build confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of camaraderie.
The philosophy at Triangle's Best Karate is a powerful combination of traditional values and modern teaching. The dojo is known for its "cultural and technical acumen," with instructors who are highly experienced and several of whom are international champions. This high level of expertise ensures that students receive top-tier technical instruction in their chosen martial art. However, what truly sets TBK apart is its unique "family environment." As one review notes, the competitive atmosphere is designed to "uplift each other to do the best you can while on and off the mat." Teammates are seen cheering each other on at tournaments, creating a supportive bond that is rare to find. This combination of challenging training and a big-family feel is a significant reason why students are "incredibly thankful" to have found this dojo.
In addition to physical training, the school emphasizes "intellectual teachings," such as the origin of techniques and comparisons with other martial arts. This approach makes students sharper not only as martial artists but as individuals, encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation for the art. The school's commitment to its students was clearly demonstrated during the pandemic, where they seamlessly transitioned to online classes, ensuring that training and progress were not interrupted. They are now "back, stronger than ever," a testament to their dedication and resilience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My daughter has been training at TBK for over 3 years and her little sister now over a year. This dojo has the cultural and technical acumen, the championship experiences, and the positive atmosphere to undoubtedly help your children excel in karate. What makes TBK different from other dojos, is the family environment. The competition between teammates is always to uplift each other to do the best you can while on and off the mat. When a teammate is at a tournament doing kobudo, kata, or kumite, the whole rest of the TBK team is cheering them on! We are so thankful we found the TBK dojo, cannot recommend them highly enough, and plan on continuing karate for the foreseeable future.
September 01 · Alyssa FoltsI recommend for all ages and skill levels. The technical level and experience of instructors and several of the students are like no other. A large number of them are international champions and more are getting ready for the challenge, like me. It is a traditional dojo, it is expected discipline, respect and hard work. Two things I think to be unique, first is the supportive environment (competitive yes, but it is like a big family of champions sharing their best) and the second is the intellectual teachings (origin of techniques, comparisons with other martial arts) which is making me sharper as a karate-ka and a person.COVID didn't stop the dojo, we kept training online, we kept the pace and we are now back, stronger than ever.
June 14 · Regina MMy son started Karate about three years ago at a different dojo, and we switched to Triangle's Best Karate in June this year. It has been only a few months, but we can see a big improvement in him. We joined their competition team, which is excellent for my son to build his confidence. All the senseis in the dojo are very professional. They are serious about what they are doing and know what they are doing. I highly recommend it!
December 10 · Merry GuBefore I moved to Raleigh in 2001, I had taken Karate since I was about 8 years old. I fell off of it once I moved, after trying a few classes in a few other dojos I gave up. 20 years later I started looking again, Shihan Yu was eager to walk me through what they were about, and after taking a few classes I found TBK to be exactly what I was looking for. I even got my wife to sign up with me, It has felt so good to get back to a traditional Karate class.I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in getting back in shape as well as hoping to get something more than just a workout to give it a try.
June 01 · Matt EggersWhat a great place to train. Whether you are 8 or 80 this is the place to be. The Yu-Robinson family make you feel like family and can give you exactly what you are looking for. They are the epitome of “ families that kick together, stick together.” Which in this day in time is a karate and life lesson we all need.
