This isn't your typical martial arts gym; it's a dedicated learning center focused on a blend of internal arts and practical combat, creating an experience that is both thoughtful and deeply engaging. As one happy member who has been training for three years attests, the school offers a dynamic split between "learning about internal arts and practical combat," ensuring a well-rounded and comprehensive education. The philosophy at The Den is centered on "the learning mind," encouraging students to always seek a deeper understanding of the arts and themselves. Under the guidance of Sijo Bryan Lewis, the school offers a supportive and informal environment where students can improve their health, learn to defend themselves, or both. The unique curriculum includes a focus on internal martial arts such as Yang Style Tai Chi, which is known for its health benefits and meditative qualities, as well as practical, no-rules Chinese Boxing for effective self-defense. This dual approach makes The Den Kung Fu a standout choice for anyone in the Nashville area looking for a transformative and authentic martial arts journey.
The essence of The Den Kung Fu is its leader, Sijo Bryan Lewis. He is described by students with an abundance of praise, being called "wise, kind, friendly, funny, patient, and everything else you'd want in a teacher." August 18 · Eric WongThe Den is definitely one of Nashville’s hidden treasures. The classes are taught by a very seasoned instructor named Bryan Lewis. He is a great guy, full of knowledge, and patient with his students. I have only been going for two months and i have already noticed big improvements in my balance and lowered my blood pressure. This place is Awesome!
August 13 · ryan countsThe teacher here is a hidden treasure. I was looking for a proper and authentic Chinese kung fu teacher in Nashville for several years. I've been a student of traditional Chinese martial arts most of my adult life. 10 years ago my teacher died. I didn't feel like training for many years, and then when I did want to go back I couldn't find anybody who taught the system that I once knew. That I'm at Bryan Lewis. His curriculum includes the most esoteric aspects of Tai chi and its related arts. Plus, he can use them. I have met many Masters of the martial arts in my career, and Mr Lewis stands tall with all of them. The classes are affordable, they are small and the attention is personal. After about 10 months of training I can feel all of the improvements returning. I cannot recommend the school enough. Join us.
August 18 · Tom ChaudoinMartial arts classes taught in a friendly and comfortable environment. Instructor Bryan Lewis really cares about your health and your well being and is fully committed to teaching the Kung Fu styles of Tai-Chi and Chinese boxing at your pace. I love that these classes are small, giving it a fun and personal atmosphere. If you're SERIOUS about learning, this is the place!
January 18 · Rocky QuitorianoBryan is a thoughtful and patient teacher. He teaches full-body health tai chi as well as a more combat-minded chinese boxing. Though the two are closely linked.Within 6 months of starting I touched my toes for the first time in my life. Now, 9 months in, my back doesn't hurt most of the time, and my body is calmer overall. I have more energy than before and I'm exercising daily.I highly recommend you give Bryan a call.Update: if you have ever had an interest in martial arts but couldn't find the time to go to classes, give Bryan a call.If you want to learn a martial art that can help you focus in daily life, has layers of detail to study, and is fun to practice, come to the den.We learn how to fight, hit a bag, hit hard etc. But tai chi is good for your body and mind in many more ways than just conditioning. I'm a full convert!
