Okaigan Karate offers a range of services designed to provide a comprehensive karate education for a variety of students.
Shotokan Karate Instruction: The core of the dojo's offering is its traditional Shotokan karate classes. These classes are offered seven days a week for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. They focus on foundational skills (kihon), forms (kata), and sparring (kumite) to develop a well-rounded martial artist.
Children and Adult Programs: The dojo specializes in instruction for both children and adults. Classes are structured by belt level, ensuring that students train with peers at a similar skill level. There are specific "Juniors" classes for ages 4-6, with other classes designed for children and adults of all skill levels.
Weapons Training: For more advanced students, the curriculum includes training with the bo, a traditional staff weapon. This provides a unique opportunity to learn a separate but related martial art form, expanding their skills beyond empty-hand techniques.
Online Classes: In addition to in-person training, Okaigan Karate offers online classes. This service option provides flexibility for students who may have scheduling conflicts or prefer to train from the convenience of their home.
Competitive Opportunities: The dojo is affiliated with the USA-NKF, and its students regularly compete at the national level. Members of the advanced competition team have won numerous national championships and have even earned spots on the United States Junior Karate Team, medaling in international competitions.
These offerings highlight the dojo's commitment to both traditional training and modern convenience.
Okaigan Karate is set apart by several key features and highlights that make it a notable place of interest in the local community.

Focus on Character Development: The emphasis on teaching respect, concentration, and self-discipline is a core component of the dojo's curriculum. This focus on non-physical skills is what helps students become "black belts in life," equipped for success beyond the dojo.
Community and Dedication: While a review mentioned a communication issue, another highlighted the owner’s professionalism and dedication. This duality underscores that the instructors are passionate about maintaining a serious training environment for the benefit of all students, even if it comes across as direct. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We enrolled with community center for this dojo.My kid is 4- and children at this age is not willing to stay in an unfamiliar place themselves. In our 1st class, we stay aside quietly. No one told us no, and even the class description didn't mentioned there's No Parent Restriction. After class, the owner called my husband and left a rude voice message to tell us not to stay. And then I received a several email for the same, which we find unnecessary and distressing.I believe this approach does not reflect a positive or supportive environment for children’s education. Not recommend for young kids.
January 21 · Amber HungMy son just started taking lessons, and I am so impressed. The owner is dedicated, professional and took time to speak to me personally to ensure that I had all the information that I needed. Highly recommended!
September 09 · Helen PiperMy son has been going to Okaigan for a few years now. Sensei Mary is the best teacher my son could have got - not just for learning Karate, but also for learning valuable life lessons!
December 16 · Sunil JoshiGreat instructors. The owner, Sensei Mary is amazing. Regular classes and even belt testing happened on normal schedule over zoom during covid shutdown. In person classes are now open with updated safety protocols already in place for covid19.
March 01 · Anoop GuptaI went to check out the junior class. It was taught by two teenagers. They look like they could care less about the students. I saw them went and got belts from the back and just threw them on the floor for the students to run and grab. I did not see the dojo listed on their website at all. I can’t imagine my child learning much from this type of environment.
