★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Five stars! My children have been attending classes for 13 years. After much research I chose NFMA because of their family approach and Ms. Nazy’s educational background. My boys have learned and grown so much! The dojo has provided them with mentorship and community. They have found friendship, self-esteem, new skills, and fitness. I very much appreciate their big picture approach, such as memorizing phone numbers and what to do when lost with little kids, and how to handle bullying with school aged kids. Their program grows as the child grows. The staff have all be amazingly supportive of my children and our family over the years. They are always kind and approach each child as an individual. I’m not sure how they remember the names of all the students and all the parents!I have also taken the adult fitness classes they offer, which were fun and challenging. I cannot say enough good things! Bonus that they are family owned and operated in the heart of Columbia.
May 09 · Sarah MadisonWe absolutely love NFMA! Two of my children began their journey 4 years ago, in the midst of COVID. They worked up the ranks, never gaining anything unless they earned it! They worked hard and this past Saturday, they tested for their provisional black belts. It was a true test of their knowledge and character. The confidence they have gained over the years is priceless. We also feel that we can send them out into the world, knowing they can defend themselves. If this was all, it would be amazing, but this school also has done something even greater. One of my sons, who has a developmental disability, has also been welcomed into this school. All of the teachers and staff have been kind and patient, while at the same time holding him to a high standard. We cannot recommend this school enough!!!
May 07 · Shute HouseMy son recently turned 13, earned his provisional black belt, and has been attending NFMA since he was old enough to join. I cannot say enough about what this place has done for my son, families, and our community. My son barely spoke above a whisper when he began but has truly developed his voice through NMFA’s practices. He applied his first lessons (knowing addresses, phone numbers, and who to ask for help) early on when he and his older sister got separated from their caretaker at Port Discovery. He has since been a vigilant protector of peace, broken up fights, and has been well equipped to stand up to bullying using words first and unfortunately his hands when he had to. At this point he has physical skills and discipline beyond his age, but above everything, values and way of living that I wish more people could understand and practice. NFMA teaches martial arts as a meaningful way of healthy living, so much more than self defense.
June 15 · John HouseinWe can’t say enough good things about Nabaiee’s Family Martial Arts. Our son began his martial arts journey with NFMA at just 8 years old, and now, at 16, he’s earned his first-degree black belt and proudly serves as an instructor. Watching his growth over these years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives.NFMA has been more than just a karate school for our family — it’s been a second home. The impact it has had on our son extends far beyond martial arts. Through the guidance, discipline, and support of Mr. Nabaiee, Ms. Nazy, Ms. Rittenhouse, and the entire staff, he has learned to carry himself with confidence, communicate effectively with adults, and embrace challenges that push him beyond his comfort zone. What began as a physical activity has evolved into a lifelong foundation. Martial arts has helped shape who he is: a confident, driven, and compassionate young leader. It’s given him the courage to take on new opportunities — from football and theater to student government and beyond. His words say it best: “Martial arts isn’t just something I do — it’s a part of who I am.”NFMA truly invests in the whole child. They care deeply about each student’s well-being, growth, and character development. From the moment we first walked through their doors, we knew it was the right place. No other school felt quite like NFMA — welcoming, warm, and committed to excellence. To anyone considering a martial arts program for their child, we give Nabaiee’s Family Martial Arts our highest recommendation. We are deeply grateful for the role they’ve played in our son’s life and for the values they’ve instilled in him — perseverance, respect, and self-belief. This place has shaped the person he is today, and we will forever be thankful for this incredible community.
May 07 · Teresa FaveroI enrolled my daughter here hoping she'd learn discipline, confidence, and real martial arts skills. Having earned a second-degree black belt myself years ago, I know firsthand how valuable martial arts can be for kids.Unfortunately, as their clientele expanded, the quality drastically diminished. Classes became increasingly rushed, with students quickly churned through and rewarded with belt stripes after every session, regardless of skill or understanding, akin to a meaningless participation trophy.Their scheduling approach makes everything worse. Classes are booked back-to-back with zero transition time, creating absolute chaos. The parking lot is a constant traffic jam with one group trying to leave while another arrives. Inside, the changing areas are a zoo with kids literally pushing each other to get their belongings while parents wait in the designated area. Classes routinely start 5 minutes late and end 5 minutes early – that's 10 minutes of instruction time lost just to accommodate their overcrowded schedule. I brought this up politely, but my concerns were completely ignored. After two years, my child still hasn't learned the basics: proper stances, how to punch correctly, or even simple defensive moves. Instead, she spent time running obstacle courses, practicing phone numbers she already knew backward and forward, and getting lessons on cleaning up after herself and helping parents. I don't need to pay premium rates for things I teach at home. The overcrowding got ridiculous. One freezing day (19°F with 35mph winds), we had to park a full 7 minutes away from the building. We brought this up stating that this has become a recurring issue. Our concerns were met with dismissal rather than understanding. Immediately after, our child developed a severe ear infection resulting in temporary hearing loss and antibiotics treatment. Children get sick for all sorts of reasons, but as a parent, this correlation was hard to ignore. So, our kid lost interest in martial arts. When we expressed our decision to leave the school due to these issues, instead of addressing our concerns or taking accountability, we were told to send a "handwritten cancellation notice via certified mail 30 days in advance"—a clearly designed inconvenience to deter cancellations and extend payment cycles.Ultimately, their practices do not reflect the integrity, discipline, or accountability they claim to teach. If you genuinely seek meaningful martial arts instruction for your child, delivered by people who actually embody these values, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
