April 06 · Laura UlshA Word of Caution for Parents Considering This ProgramWe enrolled our two young children (ages 4 and 6 at the time) at this location after they enjoyed a free trial class here. It was only after the trial that we learned all membership options required a 1-year contract, and even the option with cancellation flexibility required a non-refundable fee of several hundred dollars upfront—a fee that is charged again with each new 1-year contract. On top of this, there's a monthly fee that we felt was relatively high compared to the other extracurricular activities our kids have done, and considering the significant upfront fee.Although we were hesitant about the financial commitment, our children wanted to continue, so we moved forward. As is often the case with young kids in this age range, both ended up wanting to stop at different points before completing their full year-long contracts. Our younger child wanted to stop midway through her contract. We provided the required 31 days’ (minimum) written notice, and she reluctantly attended during that period at our urging. We didn’t feel great about pressuring her, but we also didn’t want to pay for two additional months of classes she wouldn’t attend. Our older child completed his first year, but near the end, he told me (his mom) he wanted to stop. Before we had a chance to discuss it as a family (we're working parents with multiple kids and a busy life), my husband—unaware of our son’s feelings—took our son to class and signed a new 1-year contract. Our son attended just one class under the new agreement before firmly refusing to continue. We explained the situation to the owner and asked if anything could be done. Unfortunately, no exception was made. We were then faced with a tough choice: either force our child to continue an activity he was adamant about quitting, or forfeit the considerable upfront fee and the first month’s payment. We chose not to force him, believing it was the healthier choice for our son and the class environment. The result, however, was a costly and stressful lesson. We've participated in many extracurriculars over the years, and this is the first time we've encountered such a rigid contract model, especially for very young children. For families on a budget, or with young kids still exploring their interests, this structure might be risky (perhaps too risky for some). It's also worth noting that the school enrolls students on a rolling basis, so early withdrawals don't appear to leave lasting vacancies. That makes the strictness of the contract and the large non-refundable upfront fee even harder to justify, in our opinion. We're not writing this to discourage others from trying this school. The instructors seemed dedicated, and the experience may work well for some families. But we strongly encourage parents to carefully review all contract terms and cancellation policies before signing—especially when it involves such a high upfront fee and long-term commitment for very young children. In today's economy, many families need flexible and affordable options. We hope our experience helps others make an informed decision.
August 19 · Michelle NaranjoI can’t say enough about Lead By Example, from their incredible before and after school options, to the Tae Kwon Do program, to the most caring staff I’ve come across. We also have enjoyed their wonderful summer camp programs and monthly Parents’ Nights Out. They really put their heart into making it fun for the kids! We moved away for two years, have moved back, and our daughter felt like she was coming back to family. It’s a really special place!

May 16 · Negrita VAI can’t say enough about the staff at Lead By Example South Run. Our kids have been attending their afterschool program for several years, and in that time they have made great friends, gained a lot of confidence, and steadily earned progressively more challenging Tae Kwon Do belts. The staff has always been very supportive and do a wonderful job looking after the kids and being great role models.
