★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My family and I have been involved with Chayon-Ryu since 1968. Though we started at the downtown Houston (1615 Clay) location, The Spring Branch location is home now. My father, in his mid-70's, still participates in class twice per week. He wouldn't be able to continue if it wasn't for the deep understanding of the instructors and the natural way teaching method. I highly recommend this school for anyone that wants to learn to apply martial arts to improve their lives.
July 20 · Robert McLainThere are many great aspects of training at Kim Soo Karate. Things like focus, discipline, inner peace, self defense, fitness, mental toughness, etc., are all important for different reasons. However, one should look at martial arts as a lifelong path. There is no destination. It is a journey that will reward you in ways unimaginable. I highly recommend trying it for ninety days and see the transformation begin to take place.
December 10 · She's so heavyI began training at Kim Soo Karate in 1987, and continue to train and now teach there 30 years later. Being able to train under, and learn from, an instructor with 50+ years of experience is an incredibly rare thing. Equally rare is a system which approaches training for its lifelong benefits - physical, mental, and spiritual. Rather than training for competition, Chayon Ryu is about improving one's quality of life. Many students come initially to learn to defend themselves - and do, successfully! - but stay for decades because of the long term benefits of training in a positive environment for all aspects of their life.
September 25 · Robert HenriksenCha Yon Ryu (Kim Soo Karate) Spring Branch location is where i started well over 30 years ago. I practically grew up at the Dojang. I received nothing less than the most important experience a student can get from a school. GM Kim and Mrs. Kim and Master Kim were family to me and I always think of them even up to this day. I teach Aikido now in the Woodlands but I would not be who I am without my experience at Kim Soo Karate. If you are a student of GM Kim and Master Kim (Sean) than do not quit. if you are thinking of joining a school that teaches the Martial Arts the right way with the right Heart than join Kim Soo Karate. I will always support my first teacher as he is still teaching me.
May 23 · Aikido Shinjinkan Dojo MichaelBlackWe originally visited Kim Soo Karate in a search for an activity for our ten year old son. When we visited, Master Sean Kim was so welcoming and and the dojang such an inviting place that I signed up as well, and we are both very happy with our choice. Grandmaster Kim Soo's Chayon Ryu system draws from several of the traditional martial arts, but is taught with an emphasis on modern physical safety, longevity and enjoyment. We especially like their emphasis on self-discipline and respect for ancient traditions, but taught with an 21st-century understanding. And Master Kim and his instructors are great with kids--the kids class is a joy to watch! I can't imagine training anywhere else.
