The experience at a martial arts school can be deeply personal, and a closer look at customer feedback offers valuable insights. One grandparent shared a story about their six-year-old grandson, who started attending classes to help him cope with the anger from losing his father. The discipline and teaching were praised as "excellent." However, a significant issue arose when the family took a break for the summer and, despite notifying the school, continued to be charged for three months. The review details a frustrating situation where, even after the bank refunded the payments, the school would not allow the grandson to return without paying for the months he missed. This experience highlights a serious concern with the business’s billing and customer service practices, suggesting a lack of flexibility and communication that ultimately harmed the child.
Another family shared their challenging experience with the school's equipment policy and instructor-student interactions. A parent detailed the financial strain of purchasing required sparring gear, which would cost over $800 for two children. To manage costs, the family tried to use gently used gear from a second-hand marketplace. The review describes how the instructor, Master Lee, publicly embarrassed their ten-year-old son by criticizing his gear as "too soft, useless and not allowed" and later, as "too hard and only meant for black belt students," without prior clarification on the different types of equipment. These incidents led to the child feeling discouraged, anxious, and losing enthusiasm for the classes. The parent expressed a desire for more "compassion" and empathy when addressing young children, emphasizing that public criticism can have a lasting negative impact on a child's confidence and sense of belonging.

When considering a martial arts school for yourself or your family, it's essential to look at the full picture. Karate Atlanta Duluth offers a wide range of programs that can benefit individuals of all ages, from children's character education to adult self-defense classes. The school has a reputation for teaching excellent discipline, which is a core value of martial arts. The variety of classes, including specialized programs for juniors, teens, and adults, provides flexibility for busy schedules. The on-site martial arts supply store and the ability to pay with credit and debit cards add a layer of convenience. However, the business's approach to customer service, as evidenced by the reviews, is a significant factor to consider. Issues with billing and the handling of sensitive situations, such as a child's emotional well-being and a family's financial limitations, are worth noting. While the school's focus on martial arts training is clear, potential customers should inquire about the specifics of their contracts, billing policies, and equipment requirements to ensure the experience aligns with their expectations. Ultimately, a school that teaches discipline should also exhibit it in its own operations and interactions with its community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Yes so the teaching and discipline is excellent. I had my grandson 6yrs old attend, he lost his dad ( my son). I figured this would help him deal with the anger he was feeling of losing his dad. Came summer time, I let Mastor Lee know that we would not be there for a few months. Ok , but they continued yo withdrawal payments from my account. For a good 3months. I Disputed this with my bank, And they did give me my money back. But when I returned back home, They would not allow my grandson to Attend unless I paid the three months that they took out of my Account when my grandson was not attending and I had already let them know that he would not be attending. So long story short, I went in and spoke to them about it. Everyone was nice, and told me they would give me a call, when my grandson could start again. They never called. Long story short, it didn't hurt anyone, only my grandson. So if you have money to give away , and pay for a service that is NOT being used for 3months, this is the place to go.
May 14 · carmen leonI’m writing to share something that has been weighing on my heart regarding my children’s experience at this branch of ATAMy son and daughter have both been attending classes for about a month and a half now. They’ve truly enjoyed learning martial arts, and even though they are still at the early stages—having just advanced to the second belt (orange belt)—we’ve already encountered an unexpected challenge. We were recently given a long list of required sparring gear. As parents of two children in the program, purchasing everything new through official channels would cost over $800. That’s a significant amount for our family, especially when we’re already paying $400 monthly for tuition. To manage the costs, we decided to search for gently used gear.We found a combat stick on Facebook Marketplace and purchased it for our son. However, when he brought it to class, Master Lee told him that the stick was too soft, useless and not allowed. My son was deeply embarrassed and came home in tears. To avoid another incident, we found a full set of sparring gear on Marketplace that included a stick with an ATA logo. He was excited and felt proud to wear gear that looked just like the others. Unfortunately, during class, Master Lee again called him out publicly—this time saying that the stick was too hard and only meant for black belt students. We had no idea there were different types of combat sticks, and we simply did our best to get something more official-looking and budget-friendly.Later, my son returned to using the original blue stick, and again, Master Lee inspected it and told him, “you can not use this,” in front of the class. After these experiences, my son has started losing his enthusiasm. He comes home feeling discouraged and anxious, worried that whatever he brings will be rejected or criticized. We understand that standards and safety are important, but we kindly ask that instructors approach these situations with a bit more compassion—especially when addressing young children. Publicly calling out a 10-year-old, even with good intentions, can have a lasting impact on their confidence and sense of belonging. We truly believe in the values that martial arts teaches—discipline, respect, and perseverance. We are trying our best to support our children’s journey in this, even with financial limitations. All we ask is for a little understanding and empathy as we navigate this journey together.
July 14 · MyraThe main reason I decided to put my 3 year old in Karate was for him to gain confidence and stand up for himself. It’s been 2 years since he’s been going to Karate and I have to say the instructors here are amazing, they have helped my son with so much and I’m so thankful. They seem so passionate about their job and work so well with every kid. My son loves his teachers and appreciates them so much. A great martial schools overall. I can’t wait for my daughter to join soon as well.
