July 25 · Jackie Acker Garland (Chicago Photo Mom)I practiced martial arts as a kid, so when walking by one day I was intrigued and decided to pop in and check it out with no real intention of signing up. I was impressed with how welcoming everyone was with no attitude at all. Two and a half years later I am still coming to class 2-3 times a week and love it. It was such a good decision for me as it gives me an hour a day to not think about all of the other things going on in life, learn a skill, and get in shape all at once. Jacoby Martial Arts is an extremely clean facility that has been freshly remodeled with excellent mats/flooring for safety. At first I was concerned about finding parking due to the proximity to Wrigley, but it turns out to be a non-issue. There is non-permit parking on the side streets and it is never a problem. Now saving the best for last – the instructor. Master Ky Jacoby is a worldly, kind, well-spoken man and is also, one of the best martial artists that I have ever seen in my life. Besides being an excellent practitioner he is also an excellent teacher. When you are trying to learn a technique Master Ky quickly identifies the changes that you have to make to improve your form even when it is as subtle as your posture or foot position. Master Ky is inquisitive as to how you are feeling and making sure that all training is safe for you and that you are not working on techniques that could aggravate anything that may be bothering you (old sports injuries for me). He also does a tremendous job at switching from working techniques with beginners to advanced practitioners and keeping everyone progressing and motivated. He is also great with the kids class keeping them focused and having fun while teaching them martial arts and helping them learn discipline and confidence. If you are thinking of giving Jacoby Martial Arts a try, I highly recommend it. You will not regret it.
August 07 · James M.Can’t say enough great things about this dojo and Master Ky. He loves what he does and cares about his students. Very methodical, knowledgeable and articulate in how he teaches and adapts to everyone’s skill sets and needs. I can only recommend this school to anyone new to or advanced in Karate or Hapkido, no matter the age. It’s a very welcoming environment and great people all around.
November 23 · Christopher SonntagJacoby Martial Arts is a great neighborhood dojo. Our daughter needed a good activity to focus her energy and karate at Jacoby has proven to be a great weekly activity. She feels proud and confident after every lesson. Highly recommend!
April 12 · Jeanne-Marie CohenMaster Jacoby is the best instructor I've trained under. Passionate about self defense and martial arts, able to answer all questions and provide sound reasoning and logic to techniques and practical usage. Highly recommended.
