Hwa Rang Do Martial Art Academy Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We have twin boys going to Kindergarten in Richfield. We looked at *lots* of after-school options and are so glad we went with Hwa Rang Do. The kids enjoy getting better at martial arts — it's so fun to see them practicing their moves at home, and they felt so proud when they graduated to the next belt color. And the portion of the program that isn't martial arts is exactly what we wanted in an after-school program: the instructors are great with the kids, and find a balance between letting them goof off and get out energy and keeping the environment calm and organized. Every time we pick up the kids they're in the middle of some creative new art or craft, from making gingerbread houses to making their own "swords" from cardboard to beading and sculpting. I really like the physical space too — lots of board games, art supplies, and books, as well as foosball, an aquarium, and couches to just hang out. We highly recommend this program! Thanks to all the staff!
January 10 · Robin ThomasOur son has been attending Hwa Rang Do for 5 years and it's been a great experience for him. The instructors are wonderful with the kids, patient yet firm and committed to getting kids to be their most excellent selves. They are also committed to being transparent with parents about costs and time commitment. Win-win!
June 25 · Jules LehtoAfter reading reviews online for hours, I chose Hwa Rang Do for our children's martial arts training. I am so glad I did. The reviews here didn't steer me wrong. We've been at HRD for over a year now and couldn't love it more. We started both of our kids the day after our son turned 4, since 4 was the youngest age they accept. He was excited and apprehensive. The entire staff have welcomed us in like family and made us all feel so comfortable. It has been great for building both physical strength and skills, as well as confidence. The instruction has been top-notch. Instructor Carlson handles the children with a perfect balance of strictness and kindness. When our children got their first "tip test" to help them prepare for their first belt test, he took his time to talk to them individually about what they had done well and what they could improve upon. It's sweet to see that he pays such close attention and gets to know them as individuals. He is a fabulous role model for them. Since quarantine/stay-home began, they have been taking classes online and when they say goodbye at the end of class, our little one yells, "Bye! Thank you! I love you and I miss you!"I have my master's in education and I have told many people that the instructors here are clearly trained in educational technique and experienced in how to help children learn. The skills they are learning go far beyond the dojang. When we are ready to start venturing back into public spaces, this will be one of the first places we allow our children to go in person. They are very careful and thoughtful of safety and cleanliness in every aspect. We plan to continue attending Hwa Rang Do for many years to come.
June 25 · Kate BensonWe learned about TLK martial arts after school care 2 years ago and appreciated the focus on resiliency and growth. Our kids enjoyed the physical training, building new skills, and free time for games. It has been a great environment for our kids.
June 29 · Cory SchaffhausenMy kids love training here. The mix of martial arts activity and discussion of concepts of leadership and responsibility are much appreciated! Their week-long summer camps are a favorite in my household.
