This article will serve as your comprehensive guide to Chu's Kung Fu, providing a factual overview of its offerings and an understanding of the experience from a local perspective. We will explore the school’s accessible location, the specific styles of Kung Fu taught, and the features that define its reputation. The school has a history that speaks for itself, with a lineage that traces back to masters in Hong Kong. This is not just a place for casual fitness; it is a center for serious dedication and a deep, lifelong study of martial arts. The reviews from both long-term and former students paint a picture of a place that is as demanding as it is rewarding, with a focus on genuine skill and personal excellence.
The philosophy at Chu's Kung Fu is deeply rooted in the traditions of Chinese martial arts. Sifu Paul Chu, the head instructor, is a master of multiple styles, including Wing Chun, Northern Shaolin, and Tai Chi. The school’s curriculum is built on his extensive knowledge, ensuring students learn authentic forms and applications. As noted in a powerful customer review, Sifu Paul Chu is described as an "excellent martial artist" and is praised for his talent and dedication. The training is focused on a direct, hands-on approach, where Sifu Chu demonstrates by example how to perform techniques. This teaching method, while not always verbal, emphasizes the importance of observation and emulation in the learning process. The school also offers instruction in specialized areas like Iron Palm, which highlights its commitment to advanced and traditional training methods.
The school is a place of profound personal transformation, as evidenced by a heartfelt review from a student who trained there as a child. This individual credits Sifu Paul Chu with providing life-long skills that have made him resilient and "unable to hurt in any way" by the world. This review underscores the deep impact the training can have on a student’s character and mental fortitude, a testament to the school's emphasis on holistic development. However, it is also important to consider the school's business practices, as noted in a different review. The review mentions a tuition increase for a returning student after a leave of absence, which led to a negative experience. This serves as a reminder to potential students to fully understand the school's policies and contract terms. The duality of these reviews highlights that while Sifu Paul Chu is universally recognized as a masterful martial artist, his business approach may not align with everyone's expectations.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1To be clear, Sifu Paul is an excellent martial artist! And, while he didn't 'instruct' much, he demonstrated by example how to do things. But he did something which I found despicable and I never went back. I was with him for over a year, and then needed surgery. I told him I would be back in a month or two. When I called him to tell him I would be coming back, he raised my tuition....said if you leave and come back, your tuition is higher. Marvelous martial artist, not good person.
October 08 · J W (JW77)i am 36 years old have done it all and still my experiences here as a child outshine every other life experience. words cannot explain how talented and nice Sifu Paul Chu is. because of him the world has been unable to hurt me in any way and i have never lost when attacked. When I complete my journey here on Earth my last thoughts will be how blessed I was to train under Sifu Paul Chu and how great it was that he believed in me. I am moving from california to Houston just to train with him again soon. so obviously i recommend EVERYTHING about his school. 上帝保佑他和他的学校,祝木龙快乐!!
August 29 · Collective MarkSifu Paul Chu has been teaching in the Houston area for over 30 years. If you want to learn authentic Wing Chun, Choy Lee Fut and Northern Shaolin style this is the school. Sifu Chu is very professional and truly a master.
July 01 · Adam CWent here years ago. Here’s a summary of what Paul said to me:“I’ll teach you a secret move for $199.”“Prices go up monthly now.”“Want to learn sword techniques for an additional $169 per month? Come on! You’ll really like it.”Got the last line each week for 6 months until I found a better martial arts instructor elsewhere.Paul is talented at martial arts, but I often look this school up hoping it has shut down. The owner is one of the most greedy people on the planet and doesn’t care about his students. A martial arts teacher is supposed to be on the same level as a parent. This school is run by a terrible person who should retire to sell used cars. He’s more suited for that type of job.Edit: Notice that instead of apologizing for the bad experience I had at this school, the owner denied ever doing it. A better person, who understood the principles of martial arts, would be honest, apologize, and try to grow and change. Not Paul, because he is exactly as I described above.
June 07 · B___A___ M___One of the best decisions I ever made was becoming a student of Paul Chu. I have been studying martial arts on and off since I was 4 years old, but I can say wholeheartedly that he is the best teacher I ever had and the real deal. While the prices may seem a tad steep for the pedestrian and average joe on the street wanting to learn spin kicks and one inch punches, the simple truth of the matter is that he does not have time for such things. Chu Sifu will teach you and he will teach you well, but it will be actual martial arts steeped in centuries of history and culture as well as practical application and defense, which makes the pricing all the more worth it. I have been a student of his for two and have never looked back; I only hope I can turn those two years into twenty.
