CALSMA Taekwondo is distinguished by several key features and highlights that make it a truly special place. The community-centric philosophy is at the heart of everything they do. As one parent noted, “CALSMA (Formally known as More than Medals) is a community,” with Master Jun and his wife Sunshine going “above and beyond to support the parents when help is needed.” This deep level of care and support creates an environment where students and their families feel like they are part of a larger family, not just a martial arts school. Master Jun's expertise is a major highlight; he is described as “very well versed and accomplished in Taekwondo” and has helped students become champions. This high level of instruction is perfectly balanced with an approach that is kind, encouraging, and highly effective for children. A parent shared the story of their shy daughter, who, thanks to Master Jun, felt comfortable from the start and quickly gained confidence. This personal touch and ability to connect with students on an individual level is what fosters such rapid growth and a genuine love for the sport. The recent implementation of a Sparring Team has also been a huge success, with one parent commenting on their son's improved practice and confidence. The school also offers a family discount, making it more accessible for multiple members of the same household to train together. Amenities like a clean restroom and the acceptance of credit cards and debit cards add to the convenience. The true essence of CALSMA, however, is best captured by the sense of mutual support and a feeling of being a part of something bigger. As one parent concluded, “The parents are amazing and it seriously feels like being part of another family here.” This sense of belonging is a powerful testament to the school's success in building a positive and enriching community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My daughter started Taekwondo with Master Jun when she was just 4 years old, and it has been an amazing experience ever since. She was a shy kid, but Master June made her feel so comfortable and welcomed right from the beginning. His approach with children is truly special — he knows how to build their confidence while making the learning process fun and engaging. In just 6 months, she went from a white belt to an orange belt, which was both impressive and encouraging. Taekwondo has quickly become her favorite martial art, and she looks forward to every class. I'm so grateful for the positive influence it's had on her. Highly recommend this class to any parent looking to build confidence, discipline, and joy in their kids through martial arts.
April 09 · Sukanya ManiIf your looking for a place that just teaches you Taekwondo, this is not the studio for you or your child.CALSMA (Formally known as More than Medals) is a community. The studio is run by Master Jun and his lovely wife Sunshine who are very helpful and go above and beyond to support the parents when help is needed. Master Jun is very well versed and accomplished in Taekwondo and not only has he trained his students to better themselves but also helped them become champions in their divisions. My son has been going here since he was 4 years old and he has loved being apart of this community! Not only has confidence grown but his practice has also gotten a lot better since joining the Sparring Team that they recently implemented. The parents are amazing and it seriously feels like being part of another family here. As much as my son has gotten out of joining CALSMA, I would be lying if I said that I have not been learning a lot from them as well!I seriously recommend you to come in for a class and experience what I’m talking about yourself!
February 22 · Rodrigo AguilarCALSMA has been an incredible experience for my child. When they first joined at 11 years old, they were shy and unsure of themselves in new environments. But under the guidance of Master Jun Quitain, operational direction of Sunshine Quitain, and the CALSMA instructors, they not only developed martial arts skills but also gained confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of belonging. The structured yet supportive training pushed them beyond their comfort zone in the best way. The instructors are patient and encouraging, balancing discipline with motivation. They recognized potential even when my child couldn’t see it, fostering an environment where they felt safe to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. Over time, through training and the support of their peers, they became more self-assured—not just in their movements but in their everyday interactions.Beyond the training, CALSMA fosters a true sense of community. Students encourage and challenge one another, and experienced martial artists take on mentorship roles. Families are welcomed into the fold, creating an environment where everyone—students and parents alike—feels invested in each other’s growth. The school strengthens these connections through events like movie nights, bring-a-friend days, and parent-student training nights.CALSMA also supports families with resources like parent groups, including a father’s support group, providing a space to connect and share experiences. For any parent looking for a martial arts school that builds both skill and character while fostering a strong community, CALSMA is an outstanding choice.
February 22 · Jeremy VIllaluzThis studio is so amazing. Master Jun and all the staff have been so supportive of my son who just moved to the area and helped him to build confidence and skill. Highly recommend this dojo, it’s run like a family. You can tell the high quality and high bar they hold themselves up to and is evident in the kids’ skill and excitement!
February 21 · brian lumThis place is amazing! As a student, I can say that the master here is really good with his students, being able to find out their strengths and weaknesses well. You can learn a lot here, and the curriculum always keeps you on your toes.Of course, I cannot talk about CALSMA without mentioning the community. Everyone is super welcoming and friendly; the students are so nice and very amiable, and the parents are really helpful and supportive of everyone.I love this place so much, it has actually changed my life. I’ve made so many friends on and off the mats, and I hope that one day maybe you will do the same. :)
