What is worth choosing:
Choosing an after-school program or a summer camp for your child is a critical decision, and After School Karate Academy offers a compelling and multifaceted option for Maryland families. A powerful testament to their value is found in the review from a parent whose son has attended for "over 3 years" and loves it. This long-term commitment speaks volumes about the quality and consistency of the programs offered. The parent highlights that the staff "treat the students as family," which directly addresses a common concern for parents—that their child is not just a number, but a valued member of a community. The mention of "fun" summer camp activities and "a lot of field trips" throughout the week demonstrates the academy's commitment to a balanced and enjoyable experience that goes beyond the classroom or dojo. Furthermore, the parent's confidence in the safety of their child is a crucial point, as they state, "There has never been a question of safety when my child is in their care as the staff are attentive to all students and situations." This assurance is invaluable to any parent. While one past review mentioned negative experiences from a student's perspective, this should be considered against the more recent, overwhelmingly positive testimonials from current parents who trust the academy with their children's care and development. The school’s dedication to instilling core martial arts principles like discipline and integrity, as well as providing academic support, makes it a unique and valuable choice. The convenience of their location, coupled with the inclusion of practical features like accessible facilities and modern payment options, makes After School Karate Academy and Summer Camp a well-rounded and excellent choice for any family in the Bowie, Maryland area seeking a supportive, educational, and fun environment for their children.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1When I was little I went here. I will say the owner and a few of the teachers weren’t too bad but most teachers seemed like they didn’t care or were too stressed out to find solutions to any issues. I was shy and didn’t like speaking up but they constantly punished the whole group if one child did something wrong. Instead of working with the kid that caused the issue or just punishing them they would have all of us write 100 sentences over and over again and they definitely followed the children should be seen not heard approach. I have more negative memories than positive from when I went here. They even had us do physical punishment even if we weren’t apart of the karate class. Wall sits for god knows how long and planks. I did the after school and the summer camp.
June 18 · Alyssa LoweMy son has attended After School Karate Academy for over 3 years. He participates in the after school, summer camp and Karate programs and loves it. The staff treat the students as family and quickly get to know new students. The summer camp is fun and provides a lot of field trips throughout the week for the children. There has never been a question of safety when my child is in their care as the staff are attentive to all students and situations. He will attend their aftercare program again this school year.
August 06 · Stephanie JonesMy son has been attending ASKA for the past 3 years. The ASKA are more than caregivers, they are family. I never have to worry about the safety or well-being of my child. The staff is great with communicating to parents and always have fun activities for the kids, in addition to karate. They provide before care, after care and summer camp. They are also open when schools end early or are closed (except holidays); which is great for us working parents.Thank you ASKA staff for all the care you provide to our children. You are greatly appreciated!
August 06 · Tye Magloire QueenSTAY AWAY. This place is horrible. My four year old child was physically assaulted at this facility and the staff denied it. They didn’t even inform me about his injury, write an incident report; or administer first aid. The owner DOES NOT respect women. He only cares about MONEY. Staff DOES NOT supervise young kids appropriately in the classroom or when they go to the restroom. They are grossly understaffed and DOES NOT follow CDC guidelines. Some mornings there is trash on the floor and tables at 7:00 am, and kids are sitting at filthy tables without adequate supervision. There are about 30 kids in a small class with one adult, and the kids sit next to each other - No social distancing. Some kids don’t wear a mask. I wouldn’t bring my dog to this place.
November 06 · Ihilani LewisMy son was there 3 weeks and got COVID. They take zero precautions to protect the children, and have 18 plus kids in a small classroom setting. The kids seem to routinely have their masks hanging off during pick up, with no reiteration to keep on, and same with staff. Kids are allowed to share toys, iPads, and other personal items from home which isn’t the smartest given today’s environment and not being able to sanitize personal items brought in. There should be some precautionary measures in place for these children such as limiting class sizes, providing hand sanitizer to each child upon entering and exiting the facility, routine hand washing, mask reiteration, and daily deep cleaning of all areas. The owner will say “its the kids bringing the virus not us.” There were over 5 cases of covid in the first grade class that I know of. Had precautions been in place I absolutely believe that could’ve been prevented. My son has done swimming, basketball and so many other activities this summer which all went above and beyond to be precautionary for the children they serve and NO COVID CASES at those venues!!! Cases will happen yes HOWEVER mitigating the exposure to others and your staff should be a top priority! When notified of a positive case children should not still be permitted in that area! Common sense would be to shut off that area and deep clean immediately! I would much rather find alternative care for my son for a day to deep clean the facility versus having him there exposed and then you all do it at night! I was never notified of the app alert system which alerts you of cases apparently, when I registered my son. I was informed by another parent of the positive case alert for one child and unfortunately was to late as my son and other classmates had already contracted it. : ( He since has been removed! I blame myself partially for not removing him the very first time I saw mask off other children! I also assumed they had professionals coming to deep clean areas daily but instead was told the teachers use a approved solution to wipe down desk. I can’t imagine those teacher’s doing so because it’s only a few of them as is and shouldn’t have to teach all day then be responsible for the cleanliness of the facility??? This really upset me as my son loved the karate class and was really looking forward to continuing there.
