★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They say it takes a village to raise a child. WCIMA is more than just a karate studio. It is a place that teaches respect and discipline as well as encouraging kids (and adults) to be better versions of themselves. The instructors here are exceptional and are always available to help give a little extra one-on-one training or support to parents who are struggling. The studio is open 5 days a week for students to train in class or practice on their own which is an amazing value! Adults often train with their child which adds an extra layer of quality family time. My son and I will always be thankful that we chose WCIMA! I couldn't recommend it more!
June 28 · April EdbauerThis is just another pay-to-play karate spot. They've got terribly flimsy standards. If WCIMA ever took Tang Soo Do seriously, I'd be hard-pressed to believe it based on what they offer today. The veneer of "premier" cracked within the first three months. The tournament, which they hound you to join like used car salesmen, was not to be taken seriously. Testing for belt promotion was another joke. They didn't bother testing lower ranks on terminology and they skipped the fitness portion with higher ranks. If you pay to test, you'll get the opportunity to go through the motions of testing without actually demonstrating mastery. You don't even have to know what you're supposed to do, just show up. When it's over, everyone will clap, praise your "hard work" and pretend you earned it! But really, you're not expected to hit the marks at all. They do not enforce their prescribed set of standards. Promotions are handed out like candy. Proper form and technique are not the priority here. They offer false confidence through the facade of achievement. Our son went from being proud to wear his dobok, to being embarrassed to be seen in it! When we eventually expressed our dismay about the lack of standards (among other things) and told Grandmaster Pitcher we no longer find ourselves compatible with the dojang; this was not easy for him to hear. He was visibly upset. We must be WCIMA's very first unhappy customer. He stepped away to compose himself with his back turned to us for a few minutes, then came back full of contempt and cancelled our contract. Every word he used was barbed and designed to cut. If you assert yourself here, be prepared to receive some "world-class" passive aggressiveness. His wife, Master Watson, soaked in her own version of narcissistic toxicity, let her mask fall off too. After I provided a re-cap of the interaction I had the misfortune of experiencing with GM Pitcher and asked how she'd like to proceed with the refund, she acknowledged she'd already heard about it from him and explained his having a particular personal issue "has definitely changed his tolerance level, haha." Then she proceeded to (attempt to) gaslight me about the way he treated me and my kids. She leveraged all their years in business at WCIMA and thousands upon thousands of students, blah blah blah, that never described Duane the way I did. We emailed back and forth a couple times to stay in touch about whether or not the check she claimed she mailed had ever arrived. It had not. She offered to send another check less the amount it would cost to cancel the first. I informed her of WCIMA's legal obligation to provide the refund in full, as agreed upon. After that, she opted to leave cash at the desk. I've included screenshots of that conversation. Notice the "world-class" attitude she gave in her final correspondence. That's not very nice. Pay attention to what you sign here. The waiver you sign to participate at WCIMA includes an indemnification. Make sure you understand the implications of that. They even ask you to sign off on "gross negligence." They don't take the rules seriously. They're slack on teaching control. At the tournament, a little girl was in a fit of tears telling her mom, "they almost broke my neck!" That shouldn't be happening. That's a control/safety issue. Halos on neck and head strikes are a foreign concept here, as is controlled contact. It's written in the rules, they just don't teach it. They don't even make sure you read the rules. Keep an eye on your kid(s). If you're just looking for a place to fit in, you'll likely feel welcome here. As long as you bow down and keep your mouth shut, you'll fit right in. As for us, WCIMA looks way better in the rearview mirror! P.S. "Tang" refers to the Tang dynasty of China, not offense/defence as WCIMA incorrectly teaches. Tang Soo Do means Way of the China Hand, not "way of the open hand to defend and strike," as WCIMA wrongly teaches. There's a lot wrong at WCIMA, but what do I know, I'm not "CPA and sixth degree black belt" like Watson.
June 19 · AKABecause of certified instructors with a published curriculum for every belt level, teaching is consistent. School has warm atmosphere, family friendly. I highly recommend parent to sign up with their kids.
November 19 · Ilona TakakuraGoogle policies restrict me from being too honest about this place. Suffice it to say WCIMA is not even close to being "premier." LOLThe wife of the grandmaster writes the responses- she acts like he's perfect. He's not. They put him (Pitcher) on a ridiculously high pedestal here. They think they're too cool for school- they're not. What they offer is an insult to the martial arts. Would not recommend.EDIT: I am not married, I've never been married, I'm not even romantically involved with someone named "Mrs. Autuno." My name IS Mario, that's the only part you got right. Can you make yourselves look any stupid-errrr. 😂😂😂 Thanks for doing what Google wouldn't allow me to do.
July 01 · MarioMy son is terribly shy, it’s been very hard to get him involved in anything because he is so withdrawn and we have yet to find a more welcoming environment or one who handles the challenge of a shy child better than WCIMA. After just a few classes he seems to trust the instructor and is willing to participate. We did a year of swim lessons and this kid could still drown in a kiddie pool because he just was t having it. From the front desk to the classroom all the employees have been lovely and we appreciate them.
