Choosing a martial arts school is a significant decision, and for many in the Shoreline community, Washington Premier Taekwondo Academy presents a compelling option. The reviews from long-term students and their families consistently paint a picture of an exceptional experience rooted in a caring and professional environment. One parent, whose child has been attending for over a year, described their experience as "exceptional," praising the staff for being "wonderful with the kids" and for their focus on teaching "self-discipline, physical strength, and balance." This positive feedback underscores the academy's success in fostering a nurturing space where children can thrive. The mention of their summer camps as an "exciting experience" also points to the academy's commitment to providing engaging and enriching activities throughout the year.
However, it is also important to consider the full range of feedback available. A review from a parent of an African American child detailed a very difficult experience during trial sessions, citing feelings of being "profiled because of our race." The review described an instance where the instructor's wife made a comment, "we will give him a chance today," which did not sit well with the parent. This family also noted that their son was singled out and ultimately told he was too young for a class that was advertised for his age group, despite his good behavior. This contrasted with the experience of a white child who was also struggling but was allowed to continue training. The family's belief that their child's treatment was directly related to the color of his skin is a serious concern that future students should be aware of.
The contrast between these two experiences highlights the importance of thorough personal research and a trial period. While many families report a loving, patient, and motivating environment, it is crucial for prospective members to visit the academy, observe classes, and ask direct questions to ensure the culture aligns with their family's values and expectations. The positive reviews from a large number of students are a testament to the academy's ability to provide a valuable service to many in the community. The negative review, while an outlier in the provided information, offers a critical perspective that should not be overlooked. Ultimately, the best way to determine if Washington Premier Taekwondo Academy is the right fit is to experience its atmosphere and instruction firsthand.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve read all the great reviews about WPTKD and brought my four year old son in for the trial sessions. The first class we attended was led by older students. The instructors daughter recommended we come to the Monday class as she felt it would be more appropriate for my son. My husband took my son to his second class. This day the instructor’s wife was present. As soon as she saw my husband who is African American she made a comment of “we will give him a chance today” towards my son which did not sit right with my husband. My son walked into the class ready to participate and was not doing anything wrong. That same class, there was also another four year old boy who also was having his second class. The instructor told this child’s parent that he was too young for the class due to his challenges with following directions. His dad requested that his son continues with the class and would pay for the classes. My son was following directions and participating to his full ability during class. On the third class, I took my son. I was watching my son from the window. He was seated away from the group while the rest of the students sat together near the instructor. You can see in this picture below. After class, I was asked to come into the office by the instructor’s daughter and his wife also joined us. His daughter told me that he was too young for the class and suggested we come back in September. This class my son was attending was for 4-7 years old and my son is 4 years old. The wife started yelling in Korean to her daughter then the daughter changed her suggestion to me. She told me that “this beginner class will not work out” and told me that they are reconsidering having a four year old class. They never brought anything to my attention with the first session but decided to nitpick at my child after seeing my African American husband. I feel like we are being profiled because of our race. I would understand if my child was struggling to pay attention but he was participating in all the classes he attended. For a facility that has been running for so many years, I would think they would know how to teach young children and have patience with them. This had nothing to do with my son’s ability to learn taekwondo but rather had to do with the color of his skin. I would never recommend this school to anyone after experiencing this racism.
August 17 · Ali MuktarMy child has been coming twice a week to Master Han's for just over a year. We have had an exceptional experience. All of their staff are wonderful with the kids. They focus on teaching self-discipline, physical strength, and balance all while encouraging and motivating. I've seen them handle distracted kids with a gentle and firm command. They're respectful and loving towards all of the kids. Their summer camps are an exciting experience too! Sometimes my kid is a goofball aka the class clown. Master Han doesn't yell or make my kid feel threatened. Master Han quickly, firmly and lovingly corrects my child's behavior. I really appreciate Master Han's ability to be patient with all of the kids.
June 01 · A BOur son took tae kwon do with Master Han for over 4 years, and we were very happy there. My son loved Master Han, and he and Mrs. Han and their son and daughter truly care about their students. They are flexible and responsive. We appreciated the quality of the instruction our son received, and the Hans also incorporated a lot of fun, family events into the school. When my son passed his black belt test, we decided to take a break from TKD. We had a great experience with Master Han!
February 16 · AMY REEDMaster Han and staff have been great with the kids and parents. My son had been going for 3 years and we intend to stay for more. The school is a good mix of discipline, repetition, and encouragement. We were sad that some of the instructors have left but that’s life. It’s a good workout for my son as he doesn’t do many team sports.
March 27 · TienPMy son was a student of Master Han’s for 3 years. He began TKD at age 4 and this past November after a lot of hard work, earned his black belt. Master Han and his staff are all wonderful! They are professional, really care about the students and while they expect hard work, also want the students to have fun. My son thoroughly enjoyed his time as a student of WPTKD Academy. He gained confidence, leadership skills, discipline, met tons of friends and learned a lot about Korean culture. The reviews that state nobody speaks English at the studio are simply false.
