Vision Martial Arts Reviews
I see why this studio may be a fit for those whose children are typical or conforming. My child didn’t fit the mold at vision. The model here is very one size fits all and ableist to say the least, but to be fair what can I expect when the studio is ran by children? I didn’t really understand that when I signed my son up. I expected adult instructors that had a BASIC knowledge of child development but there wasn’t even that. There was some passive bait and switch at the beginning that isn’t worth writing about. The only instructor that actually seemed to enjoy the children and have an innate ability to teach was a tall, black haired young woman who unfortunately seemed to be only part time. The main instructor Mr. Martinez and my son had a challenging time together in class. Upon disclosing to the instructor and owner my son is autistic they both were dismissive. Im not sure if the ableist environment at vision is due to ignorance or ableism is just so heavily intertwined into the culture of vision that it leaves no space for neurodiversity. My son was routinely asked to sit out of class in response to sensory stimulating behavior. Sensory stimulating is a non voluntary response to overstimulation in people who have autism spectrum disorder. Upon the one size fits all approach, there are no make up classes allowed if a child is sick or in our case has speech therapy. the actual time slots available at sign up was just a small fraction of those that were advertised on paper and online. We actually forfeited the last 6 or so classes because my son grew to despise karate day. One particular class I listened to a 13 year old instructor gas light my 6 year old, that was a fun depiction of the integrity in this studio. Don’t take my word for it though read their other one star review more specifically the reviewer’s second point where they go in depth about “Quality”. If your child has adhd, asd, or any type of neurodivergence I would avoid this establishment.
August 06 · Lydia MariPeter R-M has a gift. I saw him teach a class this evening with 9 elementary school boys, and he held their attention and respect throughout the hour in such a lovely way. He was charismatic and fun, but all with an undertone of discipline. His instruction was clear, and the mix of basics, challenges, drills and games felt thoughtful and intentional. If a child was momentarily disruptive, Mr. R-M provided an immediate but respectful correction. When I asked my very active 7 year old how he felt after class, he said “Calm. You said we can go back Saturday. How many days away is that?” Enough said.
May 01 · Valerie NygaardWill rate them on three critical parameters that should be vital to any facility offering extracurricular activities to kids.1. Safety: they operate from an extremely unsafe location. They're right next to a cigar lounge where shadiest of shady characters and junkiest of super junkies hover around all the time. And unsurprisingly, the favorite hobby of these weirdos is to peek into the MA classes going on inside the facility. The doors to the facility are never ever locked even when classes are on and seem pretty welcoming to bizzarest of bizzare intruders.2. Quality: sucks big time because instructors don't teach at all. They're so incompetent they can't even teach kids the proper warming up exercises let alone any serious MA move. Even when a kid is repeatedly doing the wrong moves, the instructors just ignore it and never correct any kid. What was atrocious was we were told classes will be like this, parents need to continue teaching MA moves to the kids at home following some useless instructional videos. No, thank you. I'm not an MA pro and can't teach my kid taekwondo moves at home while the instructors can't even teach themJumping Jacks in their facility.3. Transparency: we were offered four free trial classes before we were required to sign the contract with them. During every single trial class, the instructor cited Covid restrictions as an excuse or a reason not sure what to call it, and didn't even allow us inside the facility as long as the classes were on. We were asked to wait outside in our cars and never allowed to see what was actually going on in there. We still signed up for the paid classes in good faith only to realize soon enough that it was all a sheer waste of time. We pulled our son out after 6 weeks of useless exercises. As Willow Glen residents, we would love to support local businesses, but would definitely expect them to act more responsibly and sensibly than this hell hole. We had chosen them because they were local and hoped to try getting some normalcy back in my kid's life after the long unprecedented Covid year, but "disappointing" was their other name.
August 03 · Kanyakumari ChaudhuriWe have thoroughly enjoyed the experience my son has had here. Mr. RM is helpful and is great with all the kids. At Vision they strive not on success but more on growth and how to achieve success through discipline. I love the fact that the students are evaluated on how they perform at school, at home and at Vision. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
