Valley Martial Arts Center Introduce
Nestled in the heart of Sherman Oaks, California, the Valley Martial Arts Center (VMAC) is a distinguished institution for anyone looking to embark on a journey of martial arts mastery. This center is far more than a typical gym; it is a dedicated school for learning real martial arts, focusing on both physical prowess and personal growth. Established by three karate black belts, VMAC has since expanded its offerings to include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Budoshin self-defense programs, creating a comprehensive training hub for the community. The studio prides itself on being a "real deal" martial arts school, not a "McDojo" that offers a glorified day-care service. Here, students learn authentic techniques from experienced instructors who have a deep passion for their craft and a proven track record of success.
The philosophy at Valley Martial Arts Center is centered on delivering high-quality, authentic martial arts training in a safe and supportive environment. This commitment to authenticity is a key differentiator, as highlighted by a student who trains in multiple locations but keeps returning to VMAC. The school offers a diverse range of disciplines, including the world-renowned Shotokan Karate and the contemporary Japanese Ju-Jitsu style of Budoshin. For those interested in grappling, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is affiliated with the renowned Jean Jacques Machado. This ensures that students are learning from a lineage of excellence. The instructors, including the main Jiu-Jitsu Sensei Jon, are praised for their ability to not only teach techniques but also to instill essential life skills such as ethics and honor in their younger students.
VMAC fosters an environment where positive change is a common outcome. As one parent noted, the martial arts training, particularly in Jiu-Jitsu, helped their daughters activate their "warrioress archetype," leading to a remarkable positive change. This focus on personal transformation, discipline, and self-confidence is a central theme across all programs. Whether you are a parent seeking to help your child develop character, or an adult looking for a challenging workout and practical self-defense skills, the Valley Martial Arts Center provides a pathway to success. The clean and well-maintained facility further enhances the training experience, making it a comfortable and hygienic place to train.
Valley Martial Arts Center is conveniently located at 4635 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. The convenience of a dedicated parking lot, along with the easy-to-find location, makes VMAC a stress-free destination for students and their families. What is Worth Choosing Valley Martial Arts Center
Choosing a martial arts school is a significant decision, and Valley Martial Arts Center stands out as an exceptional choice for several compelling reasons. The most powerful endorsement comes from the students themselves, with one regular attender stating that it is "one if not the best" place to train, and where they "keep going back to despite other options." This is a testament to the high quality of instruction and the unique atmosphere that the center provides. Unlike many other places, VMAC is committed to teaching "real martial arts" and "how to fight proper," but always in a "safe and controlled environment" where injuries are not common. This perfect balance of effectiveness and safety is a major factor in its appeal.
The instructors, particularly Sensei Jon, are praised for their exceptional qualities as teachers. Beyond just technique, they focus on instilling values like "ethics and honor," which are critical for the development of young students. The positive change witnessed in students is remarkable, transforming them from individuals with little experience to confident and disciplined "warrioress." Furthermore, the diversity of the programs is a key advantage. Whether you are interested in the grappling-focused BJJ, the striking of Shotokan Karate, or the self-defense-oriented Budoshin Ju-Jitsu, there is a class for you. The availability of multiple styles under one roof, taught by instructors with national and international competitive experience, provides unparalleled value.
Finally, the convenience and inclusivity of the facility add to its appeal. With a free parking lot, a gender-neutral restroom, and wheelchair accessibility, the center is designed to be welcoming and accommodating to all. For a family looking for a positive and life-changing activity, or an individual serious about their martial arts training, the Valley Martial Arts Center is a top-tier choice in the greater Los Angeles area. Its focus on authentic training, personal growth, and a supportive community makes it a place where you can truly achieve your goals.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My daughters have been attending VMAC for over 10 months already, the positive change that I have witnessed in both of them is remarkable, their warrioress archetype had activated with this type of martial art (jiujitsu)>Jon the main jiujitsu sensei, has all the qualities a teacher can have to guide and lead children and teenagers for a positive way, he is very focus in teaching the kids specially ethics and honor. The place is always clean.
April 30 · Nantu LunaAwesome place! The place has sparked a love for martial arts in me. I started last summer and have since become a regular in Karate and Budoshin Ju-Jitsu. I've fallen in love with martial arts so much I now try places and styles all over the greater LA area. That being said, this place is one if not the best and where I keep going back to despite other options. Even though I also train in kickboxing at another studio I prioritize my training here first.Lots of classes for all age groups and styles. I don't train in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu but I can tell you the instructors and students are great there and everyone has a great time. I train primarily in Shotokan Karate which is the most popular form of Karate in the world, taught by instructors who have experience competing in national and world tournaments and winning. Make no mistake, this is not a McDojo that is just glorified day-care like some other places. This place is the real deal where you or your children will learn real martial arts and how to fight proper. But, in a safe and controlled environment where injuries aren't that common. There are adults who train here in addition to having their own children train here. In all available styles, the instructors have also trained previously under some of the most influential people in these martial arts.Budoshin is the other martial art I train in here which is a contemporary style of Japanese Ju-Jitsu, it is acknowledged officially by the Japanese Ju-Jitsu association. Unless you count Waza this martial art doesn't involve sparring and is the most self-defense focused martial art. This style focuses mainly on joint-locks and similar moves for non-lethal take downs, also moves that are prohibited in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. Many techniques are controlled drills on compliant attackers. All this considered if we did do full on sparring people would actually get hurt so there is more control and no sparring. Things like eye-gouging is taught here that would obviously not be allowed or utilized in a competitive sport setting. Unlike BJJ and Karate this is only for teenagers and older, no pre-teens allowed. There was a time where Kali was offered but was discontinued due to lack of interest. Kali is a Filipino martial art with a focus knife-flows, stick fighting, and in a nutshell, blade combatitives. If you are interested in it, the instructor Nick still teaches on Saturday's at North Hollywood park and you can meet him here since he is a student of BJJ.
September 18 · Simon SchnelleI'm delighted to share a review of the karate classes my daughter attends. From her very first day at the Sherman Oaks location, she's come a long way, now proudly holding a blue belt. Her success is a direct result of the excellent training she receives here. She even secured first place in a tournament just last year—an accomplishment we're truly proud of.This school is exceptional, boasting dedicated karate instructors who provide not only karate skills but also valuable life lessons. It's been an incredible journey of growth for my daughter, both in her skills and self-confidence.I highly recommend this school to anyone seeking quality karate classes. Many thanks to the amazing karate instructors John, Eiko and Taichiro who have guided my daughter to her blue belt achievement and tournament success.
August 30 · Geena GurevichHighly recommend the teachers at VMAC shotokan karate. Having gone through shotokan training growing up, I particularly value the lessons for my daughter beyond karate, which is discipline, perseverance, respect, resilience. Wonderful group of teachers.
September 18 · Will HuangMy son has been going here for about 4 months. Valley Martial Arts is great with kids: They have a good combination of fun, (gentle) discipline, and learning. Consider Valley Martial Arts!
