What truly sets this school apart, however, is the philosophy and culture fostered by the instructors. One of the most remarkable aspects, highlighted by a customer review, is the school’s unique approach to student advancement. To test for a new belt, students must bring in a form signed by their parents and school teachers, confirming that they are up-to-date with schoolwork and demonstrating respect, honesty, and responsibility. This innovative requirement shows that the school's mission extends far beyond the mat, emphasizing that the discipline and values of Taekwondo should carry on through all aspects of life. Choosing a martial arts school is a significant decision, and Southern Maine Taekwondo stands out for several compelling reasons. The consistent theme from customer reviews is the profound positive impact the school has on its students' lives. One former student highlighted the rapid progress they made, achieving an orange belt in just two months and making new friends in the process. They noted that they learned practical self-defense skills, which gave them a great sense of security and confidence. This speaks to the effectiveness of the training and the supportive atmosphere that makes it easy to learn and progress. Another powerful testimonial came from a parent whose daughter has been attending classes since 2015. This long-term relationship and the visible, positive changes in the child's life are a testament to the school's dedication to its students' holistic development. The requirement for a student's parents and teachers to sign off on their behavior and academic progress before a belt test is a truly unique and powerful feature that sets Southern Maine Taekwondo apart from other schools. It demonstrates an unwavering belief that the lessons learned in the dojo are meant to be applied in the real world. This holistic approach ensures that students grow not only as martial artists but as respectful, confident, and responsible members of the community. Southern Maine Taekwondo Reviews
I used to go here and I became an orange belt in only two months and made new friends. I learned skills and how to protect my self invade I ever need to this was a great experience and would recommend all ages. It’s never too late to start something new.
July 14 · Faith AndrewsMy daughter has been taking classes here since March 2015 and LOVES it. She is learning not only to protect herself but also is gaining self confidence and making new friends of all ages! Mr. & Mrs. Esposito (and the other instructors as well) are wonderful role models to their students. They honestly care for and want their students to succeed in class and in all other areas in life. Before a student can test for their next belt, the student has to bring in a form completed by the student's parents AND teachers stating the student is current with school assignments and is being respectful, honest, and responsible. Including the teachers and parents in the process of advancement shows, at least to me and my daughter, that Taekwondo goes far beyond just learning self protection, but carries on through all aspects of life.Mr. & Mrs. E have helped my daughter become more self confident and responsible pre-teen.I would love to be able to give this great place more stars! Thank you everyone at So. Maine Taekwondo for helping me help my daughter become a better person.
December 21 · Cris BarterBefore starting at Southern Maine Taekwondo (SMTKD) every parent/teacher meeting involved a guidance counselor who explained that my daughter had very poor balance, she was weak and she kept to herself much of the time. Obviously the school wanted to test her for everything.Soon after starting at SMTKD, Riley started breaking 1 inch pine boards with her hands and feet. She is now outgoing and has gained leadership skills. The benefits from attending Southern Maine Taekwondo are immeasurable. I worry much less about my daughter getting bullied in school. I know she can defend herself. I know she can take charge. Plus the monthly fee breaks down to $4.16 per class. My last cup of coffee cost more than that.I only wish I could give them 10 stars.
