★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My teenage daughter has been attending classes for a few months and loves it. Owners Scott & Amy are amazing, kind people who have a passion for teaching Kung Fu. Small class size gives extra attention to the students. My daughter had previous Kung Fu experience but in a much larger setting and did not feel she was getting the specialized training as she is now. The fee is monthly and the current times for older kids/adults (13+) are M,W,F 7pm-9pm. Ages 4-12 are M,W 5:45pm-6:45pm. Highly recommend Sinking Moon School of Kung Fu!
December 08 · R StorlieGreat environment for those interested in learning martial arts as either beginners or those with some experience. I would say the Sinking Moon School has very few requirements for their students: respect and be open-minded to the instructor, respect and be open-minded to your fellow students, and work hard.I've been studying at the school for a little over one and a half years now and I can honestly say their is no place I rather learn martial arts from. The school's instructors are knowledgeable, skilled, upbeat, and real. They want to see you succeed in your martial arts experience but they also want you to earn every accomplishment. They want to make sure you push your limits, give 100% each class, and learn the meaning of Kung Fu. You'll develop strength and speed, improve you body through conditioning, build endurance and stamina, learn your not made of glass, and at the end of the day you'll know you earned every accomplishment. Nothing is freely given at the Sinking Moon School of Kung Fu, the hard work you put in is what matters at the end of the day.If this sounds like your kind of place then come on in. Come and be open-minded to our style and hear us out, but be prepared to sweat and put in the work. Just remember, you're never too young or old to learn how to kick ass.
June 13 · Thomas WilliamsGreat martial arts school! Smaller classes allow you to learn at your own pace and not feel rushed. Fun environment to pick up self defense, confidence, and strength. Definitely recommend this school!
December 18 · Ria KelbridgeThis is a great place for great experiences if you want to learn martial arts or self defense! I entered the school in July 2017 when there were three students. As of October 2018, we're at a total of nine students (including me)! If we have a full house, that's gonna be crowded! I haven't experienced the nine of us in class yet so I'm excited for that. Generally we have an average of 3-4 students in class every night.Classes will build and polish your strength, stamina, endurance, willpower, control, speed, flexibility, execution of techniques, and mindset. But you must practice what you've learned outside of class so you can retain these skills better.Upon first entering class (or joining), you might feel intimidated and maybe even unwelcome, but stomp on those thoughts. We're all very open-minded and easygoing people. Like meeting any other stranger, you need to be around us, talk with us, and learn about us in order to chip away at any uncomfortable feelings. If you don't make the effort to communicate with us, we will not know what you're thinking and we cannot help you. It's better to air out any of your insecurities immediately so we can be aware and offer aid where needed. When you attend class regularly, you'll get a feel for who comes in on what days. There are plenty of opportunities to build rapport with each student. The school has gotten many requests for kids classes, so our instructor has expanded the school to welcome kids starting October 2018.My most fun experience with this school so far is the 2018 tournament! Every year we hold a memorial tournament for one of our late sifus. Our association has a few schools scattered throughout the US. I participated in last year's tournament in the Springfield, Illinois school even though I had only been in our school for one and a half months. I'm glad I made the decision to go.This year's tournament was held in our Rosemount, Minnesota school and our instructor and his wife made it a BLAST!!! I'm so glad I participated even though I was having second thoughts! The skills combine portion was super, SUPER fun. Everybody was cheering and supporting every participant! I totally recommend joining these yearly tournaments if you become a student, even if you just want to watch instead of participate, even if you just joined the school one month prior. You'll definitely learn something new at these tournaments, build rapport with our school and the other schools, and make great memories if you bring an enthusiastic mindset! That said, our school is not competitive. You learn at your own pace. If you're having an off day, then take it easy. If there's something you don't feel comfortable doing, then just mention it. Our instructor will push you to your limits but he's a laid-back and understanding man too. He also has a lot of funny stories to tell! You'll like him!One thing I did not expect upon joining was the amount of bruises I would accumulate. Apparently I bruise very easily. But...well, that's just a part of training to become a martial artist. Everybody has bruised at some point, so you should expect to bruise too.I once fell in class (about a month in) and that ridiculous, insignificant fall resulted in an injured wrist, seen in the photo with me wearing a splint. It took eleven months for me to recover fully! That was The. Most. Stupidest. Fall I've ever experienced. Even though classes teach you the proper way of falling to avoid serious injuries, my body clearly needed to practice falling more often because when I fell that night, I instinctively fell improperly. The point of this message is: Practice what you've learned in your own time, outside of class. Seriously. I wasn't even two months along and I already sustained a wrist injury from falling!Classes will teach you many things to save yourself in the near or far future, but if you don't practice them, you'll likely find yourself in my previous position at some point in time. Nowadays I'd rather let my ribcage hit the floor first than let my hand hit the floor first!
October 05 · Lisa PriceI really enjoyed the class! Everyone was really friendly. I learned some new techniques and had a great workout! I would absolutely recommend it to anybody that wants a good workout while learning a skill at the same time.
