Shotokan Karate Institute Reviews
Have been practicing Shotokan Karate here since 1990. Sensei Sharifi is an amazing instructor and is well respected internationally. He works with students of all ages 6 to 75+. He is the primary instructor for all classes.
December 25 · Richard CaponePrior to choosing to make Shotokan Karate Institute my dojo I went to check out many other karate schools in the Bay Area. I chose Shotokan Karate Institute for many reasons. I was immediately impressed by the etiquette of the students and the attentive manner of the senior students. Hanshi Sharifi, the dojo's founder and director, is involved in many classes and gives lots of personal attention to students at all levels and ages. I also love that there are many serious female students here, and all the incredible blackbelts that help teach classes without ego or aggression. This all comes from the many years they have studied with Hanshi and incorporated his balanced approach to teaching form and function as well as mental discipline and etiquette. The studio is also very diverse in age, background, gender and ability level and beginners get lots of support to gain confidence and develop proper form in their practice. The studio itself is only used for karate and is a well equipped safe space with plenty of parking. I highly recommend it for all practitioners at all levels.
