Sacramento Wing Chun-Pak Mei Introduce
For Californians with an interest in authentic and traditional martial arts, the search for a truly dedicated training facility can lead to a handful of exceptional places. Sacramento Wing Chun-Pak Mei, located in Sacramento, stands out as one of these unique destinations. This martial arts school is not just a place for physical training; it is a center for preserving and teaching rare, accredited forms of Wing Chun and Bak Mei. This guide will provide an in-depth look at what makes this academy a premier choice for martial arts practitioners, from its rich lineage and training programs to its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to accessibility.
The philosophy at Sacramento Wing Chun-Pak Mei is centered on a non-militant, relaxed environment designed to facilitate deep, inward training and relaxed power. This approach is highly valued by students, including an older practitioner who notes that the school helps him integrate his Tai Chi and other martial arts he learned earlier in life. This demonstrates the school’s dedication to a holistic approach to martial arts, focusing on mind-body connection and the practical application of principles rather than just rote memorization of techniques. The community here is strong and supportive, with students of all ages, from kids to seniors, training together and creating a phenomenal sense of camaraderie.
What sets this school apart is its deep-rooted connection to the authentic lineages of the styles it teaches. As a customer review highlights, this is one of the few places in town that teaches two different lineages of Wing Chun, and it is the only place with accredited permission from China to teach the Bak Mei style. The instructors are direct students of Grandmaster Eddie Chong, a renowned figure in the martial arts community. This direct lineage ensures that students are learning from a source of proven authenticity, a feature that is paramount for serious martial arts practitioners.
Sacramento Wing Chun-Pak Mei is conveniently located at 7039 S Land Park Dr #3137, Sacramento, CA 95831, USA. This address places it in a well-known area of the city, making it an accessible training location for residents across Sacramento and the surrounding regions. The location is easily reachable and its presence in a commercial area simplifies the process of getting to and from classes. The convenience of the location contributes to the high attendance rate of students who come 4-5 times a week, as noted in a review, showing how manageable it is to incorporate training into a regular schedule.
The facility is also designed with accessibility in mind. It features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can easily access the school. This commitment to inclusivity reflects the school's broad and welcoming philosophy, making it a safe and open space for all community members. The presence of clean, well-maintained restrooms adds another layer of comfort and convenience for all students. While the floors are concrete, a minor nuance mentioned in a review, this is easily addressed by wearing appropriate footwear, and the school provides the necessary equipment like punching bags and staffs for student use.
Services Offered:
Wing Chun Programs
The academy offers a comprehensive training program in Wing Chun, a close-quarters combat system popularized by Bruce Lee and other famous practitioners. A key feature is the availability of two distinct lineages: the Hong Kong style (Ip Man) and the Foshan style (Pan Nam). Students learn forms, techniques with knives and staffs, and structured drills. The training is focused on teaching students to use "relaxed power" and develop a deep understanding of the forms, which is particularly beneficial for practitioners of all ages and fitness levels. The school's non-militant, relaxed approach ensures that the training is both effective and enjoyable.
Bak Mei Training
Sacramento Wing Chun-Pak Mei is a rare gem for those interested in Bak Mei (also known as White Eyebrow), a powerful and highly regarded Southern Chinese martial art. The school holds accredited permission from China to teach this style, making it the only place in town to do so. The Bak Mei curriculum is designed to teach students the intricacies of this art, focusing on short-range power generation and practical application. This is a significant draw for advanced students or those looking to explore a unique and authentic martial art style.
Chi Kung and Private Lessons
In addition to its core martial arts programs, the school also offers Chi Kung (Qi Gong) for internal energy development and healing. This practice complements the physical training, helping students to improve their overall health, body awareness, and power generation. The availability of private lessons provides a valuable opportunity for students to receive personalized, one-on-one instruction from the sifus. This can significantly accelerate a student's progress, allowing them to focus on specific techniques and areas for improvement, as noted in the customer feedback, which praises the instructors for their ability to help students integrate various martial arts knowledge.
Features / Highlights:
Authentic and Accredited Lineage
The most significant highlight of this school is its direct lineage to Grandmaster Eddie Chong and its accredited status to teach Bak Mei. This authenticity is a rare find and provides assurance to students that they are learning a genuine and traditional art form from highly qualified instructors, or sifus. This is a critical factor for dedicated martial artists in the California community seeking true mastery.
Experienced Instructors
The academy is run by two sifus who are direct students of Grandmaster Eddie Chong, each with over 30 years of experience. Their expertise and dedication are clearly reflected in the positive reviews, with one customer giving the school a "highest recommendation." They are skilled at teaching students of all ages and capabilities, including an older practitioner who feels the training is helping him with his other martial arts.
Comprehensive Training Environment
The facility is well-equipped with three wooden dummies, a hanging punching bag, and a free-standing punching bag. All staffs are provided for use at the facility, which is a great convenience for students. The structured class schedule, with specific days dedicated to drills and others to student-led practice, offers a balanced and effective training regimen.
Non-Militant and Community-Focused
The "relaxed environment" and "sense of community" are frequently praised by students. The school actively promotes mutual encouragement and help among students, and it also accommodates kids and adults training at the same time in separate, instructor-led groups. This creates a supportive, family-friendly atmosphere that is highly appealing to many in the local Sacramento area.

June 04 · Andrew TivilikIm taking wing chun here and its pretty good. Im 68.5 years but this school is helping me integrate my tai chi and other martial arts i learned earlier. Sifu is great and i cant keep up with the younger people, but learning an awful lot. I give this school my highest recommendation
April 19 · steve WongEddie Chong has a good reputation which is why I was surprised to see just how many character flaws he has. I have been training in Wing Chun specifically for many years and this man disrespects the very art that he practices. He's disrespectful towards students and only cares about money. He hates "drama and politics" and yet he's always the one that starts it. He even tried to screw over the heir to the school who had been there for over 2 decades. Thankfully, he was wise enough to leave the school. He's also a bit racist towards people that are not Chinese or Asian. He'll put on a good persona though if you have the money of course. It's completely unacceptable. DO NOT go to this school. He doesn't deserve his reputation, to be called a teacher, or anyone's money. Literally, any other Wing Chun school would be better than this one. You would at least have a teacher that is genuine, humble, and embodies the art that they practice. This school is a sinking ship by his own doing and you do not want to be on board.
June 27 · Hannah SeleneBrought my daughter in for a trial lesson. According to the pictures framed on the wall, Sifu Eddie left the studio over a year ago and handed it over to Sifu Jerry and Sifu Jean-Pierre. My daughter's initial visit was with Sifu Jerry. He was very patient and attentive with her. It was a great experience for her and we hope to go back soon.
October 29 · Fong Family FunThese people are amazing! Sifu Eddie is great and knows how to teach all personalities and genders. Everyone in the school is a family member and all look out for each other. This is NOT another chain martial arts school. Come prepared to learn and grow.
