Can’t say enough good things about my experience at this gym. All the students were friendly and knowledgeable. If you’re looking for a gym in SF this is the one.

January 27 · William MackieWhenever I’m in SF, I make it a point to train at Romulo Melo BJJ. Coach Romulo is an incredible instructor and also extremely welcoming. The instruction is world-class—rich in detail and depth—and it clearly shows in the skill level of the students. I was taking away something new from every roll. What stood out most was the warm and inclusive atmosphere. Everyone made me feel right at home, which made the experience truly memorable. Can’t wait to be back in town and roll with this amazing crew again.
May 15 · John EnglerAs a guest, I had a wonderful time training at this Academy. The head instructor and members are so welcoming! Whether your seasoned grappler or brand new. It’s a rare find to come across an Academy like this!
March 22 · Damien KeeterRomulo Melo is an amazing instructor who welcomes students at all levels. This is the first martial arts gym I ever stepped foot into, and as someone who is often the only female in the morning class, it took me six months to participate in my first roll. Romulo allowed me to take my time and join when I felt ready. He consistently encouraged me and helped me overcome my fears and mental blocks. The gym culture, along with the support of other students, makes it a fantastic place to learn BJJ. It’s not just about mastering techniques—it’s about building camaraderie and supporting one another along the way. There is a women’s team that has grown, creating a welcoming space for more women to train. The gym now even offers a dedicated women’s class, helping female students feel confident and supported on the mats.
