Riverdale Kenshikai Karate Introduce
For residents in the Riverdale and greater Bronx area of New York, Riverdale Kenshikai Karate is a martial arts school that truly stands out. This is not just a place to get a good workout; it is a center for genuine physical and personal development. Under the guidance of the highly skilled and humble Master Paul, the school provides an authentic and disciplined environment where students of all ages are encouraged to grow. In an era where "faux experiences" are often marketed, Riverdale Kenshikai is celebrated by its community as "a real gem" that delivers on its promise of traditional, high-quality instruction. The focus here is on personal improvement, with the goal that "each day you train your hardest, slowly pushing your own limitations, so that when you leave you are a little better than when you arrived."
The atmosphere at Riverdale Kenshikai is a cornerstone of its appeal. The community is described as warm and welcoming, where both children and adults feel a sense of belonging. Sensei Paul is highly praised for his ability to get large groups of kids to be "coordinated and orderly," while still being deeply invested in the advancement of each student as an individual. This structured environment, combined with high expectations, helps students not only learn martial arts but also develop crucial life skills such as respect, self-control, and confidence. For children, the positive impact is evident in their increased self-assurance and ability to handle themselves, a point highlighted by a parent who feels their child could defend themselves if necessary. For adults, the classes are a great way to build strength and push physical boundaries, as one student noted, finding themselves able to do real push-ups again after a decade. This blend of physical and mental training makes the school a truly transformative experience for the entire family.

May 05 · AmasiGreat school, authentic. Sensei Paul is really invested in the advancement of each student as an individual. He has high expectations of the kids and they live up to them. My child has been going here for about a year and I wouldn't worry about him walking alone because I'm certain he could break an adult arm in self defense if necessary.Adult classes are also great, I hadn't done real push-ups in at least a decade but I've worked my way into it and feel much stronger. In a time where faux experiences are heavily marketed with disappointing results, and where adult leaders too often defer to nonsense, Riverdale Kenshikai is a real gem. Sensei Paul can get a large group of kids of all ages coordinated and orderly to perform a kata, and after class it's a nice community. Respect of others and the self is required, self control is developed. The nicest after school group we've found in the area
May 29 · Rachel MI am a parent of a child on the spectrum, and my daughter attended here from October to December 2024. While the staff was kind, I was deeply saddened when another parent disrespected my daughter, calling her "crazy" and telling their child not to speak to her. Although the school apologized, I felt they protected the other parent and took no real action. Concerned for my daughter’s well-being, I had to transition her to a different school, as no child should be treated this way, especially one with special needs. As a parent, I would advise the school to take better actions when something like this happens again.
January 04 · Alissha GreerMy son first started at the Dojo close to 6 years ago at the age of 4. As a 4-yr old, he couldn’t sit still, pay attention, and loved making funny faces in the mirror. I can still remember him getting in “trouble” for making funny faces in the mirror. Fast forward to the present, my son is now a brown belt. He has such a love and interest for karate and the Dojo and has such respect for Shuseki Shihan Paul. My son has learned more than karate during his time at the Dojo…he’s learned respect for his family and his fellow peers, he’s learned to take pride and care in all that he does (his school work, his appearance, his possessions), and most of all, he’s learned patience and compassion. I am so glad that my husband & I chose Riverdale Kenshikai Karate. We moved 20 minutes north to Westchester 3 years ago, and we still bring our son to the Dojo. Shuseki Shihan Paul and the members of the Dojo have become an extended part of our family.
April 18 · Joyce Ann MoranSince becoming a student at Riverdale Kenshikai Karate my life has been enhanced tenfold. The wonderful community of people and the profound teaching that Shuseki Shihan Paul provides are just a couple of reasons I love this school so much.
