Professional Martial Arts Introduce
In the vibrant community of Topeka, Kansas, Professional Martial Arts (PMA) stands as a testament to the true spirit of martial arts. This is not a place for quick fixes or easy black belts; it is a dedicated dojo where competence, integrity, and hard work are the core values. For those seeking authentic training in disciplines like Okinawan Karate and Aikido, PMA offers an experience that is both challenging and deeply rewarding. As one student put it, this place is "NOT a Belt Factory," a crucial distinction for anyone who values the genuine mastery of a martial art. For residents of Kansas, PMA provides a rare opportunity to train in a place where you truly earn your rank, building real skill and confidence along the way.
The philosophy at PMA is simple yet profound: you get what you earn. The instructors, including the highly-regarded Keven Wilson for Karate and Ron Haag for Aikido, are committed to maintaining a high performance standard for every promotion. This ensures that every belt, especially the coveted black belt, is a symbol of true skill and dedication. The academy's approach is designed to produce high-quality martial artists, not just students who move through the ranks. This emphasis on quality over speed means that every class is a meaningful step forward in a student’s journey. The academy recognizes that everyone's path is different, and while some may take longer to progress than others, the process is "always fair" and "always skill based," creating a truly equitable and motivating environment.
The academy's commitment to authenticity is a major draw for both adults and children. For adults, it's a place where they can rediscover their passion for a discipline or begin a new one with the assurance that they are receiving top-tier instruction. For families, PMA offers a structured and disciplined environment where children learn far more than kicks and punches. They are taught the values of perseverance, self-control, and hard work, skills that are invaluable in school and in life. The academy’s "real Karate" and "real Aikido" are a counterpoint to many modern programs, providing an educational and empowering experience that has a lasting impact on its students. The fact that a family has been involved in classes here since 1998 speaks volumes about the enduring positive experience the school provides, with the students giving the school credit for "much of good health."
PMA’s comprehensive approach to martial arts education also includes a variety of programs designed to meet diverse needs. Whether you're a child looking for an after-school program or an adult seeking a way to improve your physical fitness, the academy has something to offer. The benefits extend beyond the physical, with a focus on mental training that helps students with focus, concentration, and discipline. The supportive community at PMA adds another layer to the experience, creating a family-like environment where members help hold each other accountable and provide positive reinforcement. This balance of rigorous training and a supportive atmosphere is what makes PMA such an exceptional place to learn and grow, both as a martial artist and as a person.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1PMA is a wonderful Dojo led by extremely competent Martial Artists. The Karate Class led primarily by Keven Wilson, and Aikido led by Ron Haag. They teach real Karate and real Aikido. This place is NOT a Belt Factory. You earn your rank. This place isn't going to be making child black belts. If you stick it out and earn your belts they're real. Requiring skill and a performance standard for each promotion. Resulting in high quality Martial Arts.If I had to state one of the hardest things, is that everyone's Martial Arts journey is different and some people grasp the concepts and techniques of a Martial Art than others, resulting in some taking longer to get belted than others. Yet it's always fair. Always skill based. Always takes time.If you can, at least try it out. If you love real Martial Arts, you'll likely deeply enjoy PMA.
