★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1There is no place like premier martial arts on Callahan. We’ve had our son enrolled since this dojo has opened. Casey and Leah are amazing and hold the kids accountable to improving every single week. The coaching extends off the mat to, with driving importance of respect and hard work. We LOVE being a part of the premier family and look forward to many years together! Thank you so much Casey and Leah for being great leaders!
February 14 · Tim WellsMy son started at the beginning of summer and is a totally different kid. I couldn’t thank Mr. Caleb and Mr. KC enough for helping him learn discipline and to work hard. They encourage their students to do their best and not give up! The amount of positivity I see with the instructors is amazing. My son looks up to them so much!
December 22 · Jessica WilderWe have been members at Premier martial arts for almost 3 years. And our first year we had an amazing instructor, but he abruptly left after the December belt graduation. We had other instructors on and off for several months before another permanent replacement was found. Now after only a few months, that full time instructor has been “demoted”. We are looking at other martial arts and karate studios in the Knoxville area for the main purpose of stability for our child. This franchise obviously cannot hire reliable instructors for our young children. Our children get very attached to these instructors and if they can’t vet and hire someone for the long term, then we will be taking our business elsewhere. I was once a very satisfied customer and now I have turned into a very upset parent.
August 24 · CLAIRE ADAMSMy son has been going to PMA N. Knox for over two years now. When he started, one instructor was on his way out the door. Master Von and "floaters" stepped in and ran classes until they could find a instructor to take the job. Once they found a new instructor, my son got settled in and then that instructor left abruptly. If it had not been for Mrs Leah and Master Von, being around for the first 18 months, I would have pulled my son out of there. Over the 26 months my son has seen 8 instructors there, one being a floater (Mr Calleb who has been there for the past 45 days, and that has been a part of my son's instruction off and on for his time at PMA, which he enjoys him!). One instructor we met at the Winter Sale back in November, he talked with my son and seemed like he would do really well, I saw him in one class and he was gone after that! The latest instructor had only been there for a handful of months, she was doing great with the kids, she has been demoted to a floater. I feel bad for her, because she left Colorado to come here and take over this school and now she lost her lead role at this school. Every location has multiple people working at them, yet she was a one man show.Instructors my son has seen in no particular order:Casey, Von, Jake, Sammy, Alex, Calleb, Ashley, Mike, Kevin, and there is one more that I can't think of his name right now.All of the instructors that we have had have been great! Management needs to get the act together and fix this issue. I have reached out to Gavin several times this week and he has yet to respond to me or acknowledge me, even when he showed up one night to the school to meet with the new GM! He looked at me, turned his head and walked away! At the end of next month, my son will be a second degree red belt, less than a year from his black belt. I have been looking at other locations that will accept his ranking and let him finish out to his black belt. Over the past two plus years, he has been in Black Belt Training, Premier Training, Expert Training, and Leadership Training. As well, he took a summer belt advancement class summer! He shows up for classes, helps teach the little and tiny champs classes and enjoys it very much! It's a shame that PMA can't get their act together! The great vibe around the school is lost and I don't think they can right the ship now!!Since Mr Calleb has been there for the psst 45 days, has a relationship with the older kids that have been there for more than 2 years and has built a relationship with the new students. Why don't you reward him with this location and save face? That seems like the most logical thing to do? As well, hire an aid to assist with walk-ins, and the 2 free visits so you are not using Leadership class time on Saturday mornings to accomplish this and taking my paid time from my sons Leadership class to increase enrollment! This school use to have the largest enrollment of all the schools in Knoxville at one point. Now, sometimes they are less than a handful at the youth class. That should tell you something right there! Corporate, just watch the cameras you installed to see what is going on and how your enrollment has dropped. If you are reading this, and looking for a fit for your child, I would look elsewhere until they can get this under control! I'm in a three year contract with them, do your research before enrolling your child anywhere!
August 25 · Eric LohmanOur kid went to the North Knox location for about 8 months. It was great at first with Master Von and Leah. After that it was one after the other with instructors. Kids need stability. The other thing we noticed is the instructors spend more than half the class time making the kids do workouts such as 100 pushups 100 sit ups, running a mile and more. Kids are almost passing out from exhaustion . They call it black belt training but some of these kids just started out and have years before black belt. There was very little time to teach anything after those workout plus they are exhausted. That’s your basic corporate bs to make money. More workouts less learning so you have to come back more and pay more money. I had one of the many instructors there tell me there are way better places to take our kid here in Knoxville. I even went to the Powell Location and talked to them about transferring but they aren’t affiliated with North Knox. The Powell location said they actually learn there and couldn’t believe they have 10 and 12 yr olds doing 100 pushups and sit-ups. I guess this place is good if you want a good workout for your kid. If you want them to actually learn something, it’s gonna cost you about $8,000 or more to get to black belt.
