Portland Aikido Introduce
For individuals and families in the Portland, Maine, region, Portland Aikido offers a truly unique and transformative experience centered on the "Art of Peace." Unlike other martial arts focused on aggression and competition, Aikido is about blending with an opponent's energy to neutralize conflict without causing injury. This makes it an ideal practice for people of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds. At Portland Aikido, we are dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment where students can not only learn effective self-defense but also develop invaluable life skills such as confidence, discipline, and resilience. One parent of a 16-year-old high school student who dislikes most sports noted that her daughter "loves aikido, gets a great workout here, and comes home tired." Beyond the physical benefits, students find a sense of calm and a practice that is almost meditative, helping them build mindfulness and focus. Our dojo is a welcoming community where instructors are committed to helping every student feel comfortable and empowered, making Portland Aikido a true sanctuary for personal growth in the heart of Maine.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Our 16yo daughter loves Portland Aikido. She has trained here for almost two years, and we are grateful for the confidence, discipline, and resilience she has earned through her practice. She dislikes most sports, but loves aikido, gets a great workout here, and comes home tired. The calm, quiet aspects of aikido have also become important to her. She feels she is practicing mindfulness techniques and says it's almost meditative.Portland Aikido has several classes per week, so she can always fit sessions into her busy schedule. The instructors are wonderful at working with all ages, kids through adults, and they are communicative with parents.PA doesn't offer a teen class, but this is a low-risk, gentle art. She began in the adult classes at 14 (and small for her age), and we always felt she was safe and nurtured. The instructors and other students helped her feel comfortable and empowered working with all ages. She is a high school sophomore but already has a relatively professional after-school job. I believe a large part of her ability to win that job and do it well comes from the teamwork mindset and adult-interaction skills she has developed while practicing at Portland Aikido.
May 03 · Renee G. Cote (Wren)My teenager started practicing at Portland Aikido nearly 3 years ago. After watching the classes twice a week for a few months, I saw how welcoming and respectful the dojo members are to a young person. I also saw how my teen's self-confidence and physical stamina improved dramatically. I realized I wanted the same things for myself and started practicing in the same classes as my child. Since then, we have both experienced personal and physical improvements, and our relationship has gotten even stronger. Aikido is a wonderful practice for parents and children to do together, and Portland Aikido is a great place to do it!

Aikido is a great martial art, it's for everybody, so it's for you! Put in as much meaning and efforts as you want and you will be fulfilled.
October 22 · Marilène GelinasAt Portland Aikido, I've practiced with experts and beginners. Every class presents mindful challenges, and every partner provokes body-bending self reflections. Aikido can be a life-long endeavor offering health benefits, mental tuning and a warm and open community. My 8 year-old and I have participated in seminars together and have been welcomed at USAF dojos all over the place.
July 17 · Aaron BThis is a wonderful place to practice Aikido. I've been training here for a few years. The teachers and students are very friendly and welcoming, and there is a good range of people from beginner to advanced. Please stop by and take a class.
