What is worth choosing
For anyone in the Colorado community, One Dojo is an exceptional choice for a variety of reasons, but its most compelling attribute is its unique identity as a community training center. Instead of focusing on just one discipline, One Dojo brings together a rich tapestry of arts—from the peaceful martial art of Aikido to the restorative practices of yoga and Tai Chi. This diversity allows members to explore different paths to wellness and find what truly resonates with them. The fact that you can learn traditional Japanese swordsmanship (Iaido) and practice Vinyasa yoga under the same roof is a rare and invaluable opportunity.
The quality of the instruction is another key reason to choose One Dojo. The studio is home to master-level teachers, some of whom have a long and respected lineage in their respective arts. This ensures that students, whether they are beginners or advanced practitioners, are receiving authentic and high-quality instruction. The warmth and personal attention from the staff, particularly director Abel Villacorta, create a supportive environment that makes everyone feel welcome and valued from their very first visit.
Finally, the strong sense of community is what truly makes One Dojo a special place. Students frequently describe the studio as their "favorite place to be," highlighting the genuine connections and friendships that are formed there. The community is supportive, non-competitive, and encouraging, creating a safe space for personal growth and exploration. With programs for both children and adults, it’s a wonderful place for families to learn and grow together. The availability of a free trial class makes it easy to experience this unique and life-enriching environment for yourself. In a city known for its focus on health and wellness, One Dojo stands out as a place that truly nurtures the mind, body, and spirit in a way that is both authentic and deeply rewarding.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Best martial arts studio in Boulder! I've been training here for almost two years and it's my favorite place to be. Abel Villacorta, the director for One Dojo, is extremely warm and personable and welcoming to everyone. He is also the Lead Instructor for Boulder Ki Aikido (one of many programs you can train under at One Dojo) and is a joy to work with. We have Kei Izawa Sensei, 7th dan, who is Chief Instructor for Aikikai Tanshinjuku at our dojo! We also have Evolene Premillieu, 4th dan, who teaches Aikikai. We have Iaido classes, yoga classes and taiko classes! it's a wonderful community and atmosphere and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it!
July 29 · Sarah Q.A community training center is a perfect idea to bring together different martial arts and programs.I recently visited One Dojo’s traditional Aikido class taught by Izawa sensei/Tanshinjuku Aikido. The dojo is a beautiful setup and location with around 40 tatami (falling) mats decor sharing the culture and martial art programs. Our class was focused around the Aikido Jo and lucky to have focused class from Izawa sensei. This is a great program and the Tanshinjuku classes are very mature and have a long lineage with both Aikikai and Kanai sensei style.I would highly recommend people starting Aikido to try a class and lear Aikido from the Tanshinjuku teachers at the one dojo and enjoyed practicing and meeting Izawa sensei and Cunningham sensei. Arigatou.Lastly, the One Dojo also has other programs as well and might be great opportunity to learn other disciplines as well.Share your experiences and review here as well.
February 22 · Andrew BlevinsSuch a supportive and joyful place! The teachers and students are so generous with their knowledge and energy. I may come in with stress and tension, but I always leave with calm, focus and a smile on my face. In just a few weeks I can sense the teachings of Ki Aikido starting on the mat and flowing deeply into living life.
March 20 · Jen I.One Dojo is a spectacular place to train Aikido, Yoga, Tai Chi, Taiko drumming, and other practices. The dojo is very supportive to it's teachers and students. There is a lot of effort put into the learning of the students, as well as creating a clean, peaceful atmosphere. Finally, the students are welcome to try any and all of the offerings, and it is a great way broaden your learning.
June 19 · Mike DetweilerI recently started attending Aikido class here. It has been a great experience. The instructors are fantastic, it is a great mental and physical workout, and I immediately learned skills I can apply to other sports. I can't imagine a better all-around experience with any Boulder Martial Arts facility.
