Oahu Taekwondo Center Introduce
For those seeking a martial arts school that offers not only exceptional training but also a deep sense of family and community, the search often ends at Oahu Taekwondo Center (OTC). Located in the heart of Aiea, this institution is much more than a typical sports activity location. It's a place where lifelong bonds are formed, and where the commitment to a student's journey is a top priority. Founded and run by the highly respected McCutcheon family, OTC has built a legacy that extends beyond Hawaii, touching the lives of martial artists around the world. Their dedication to the art and their students is a testament to the true meaning of a World Martial Artist. As one long-time member, T. Uyehara, a military veteran, powerfully stated, the McCutcheon family has "changed the martial arts community not only limited to Hawaii, but all over the world." This level of influence and respect is a clear indicator of the school's high caliber and ethical foundation.
The philosophy at Oahu Taekwondo Center is rooted in the belief that martial arts is a vehicle for building character. The instructors, led by Masters Brian and Tam McCutcheon, are known for their patient and nurturing approach. They understand that every student, whether a young child or an adult, has a unique journey. They are committed to teaching not just physical techniques, but also the values of discipline, camaraderie, and respect for all. This is beautifully illustrated by the story of a parent whose son went from being a timid five-year-old to a national-level competitor in just four years. The parent highly recommends the school for its focus on "teaching the children discipline, camaraderie and respect," proving that the lessons learned at OTC are life-changing and go far beyond the dojo.
The school's reputation for excellence is well-earned. The instructors are not only highly skilled martial artists but are also world-class coaches. This is evidenced by their accomplishments, which include being asked to coach the US Olympic Team. This level of recognition is rare and speaks volumes about the quality of instruction and the depth of expertise available to every student. Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps into a martial art or an aspiring competitor with Olympic dreams, OTC has the knowledge and experience to guide you. The school’s programs are structured to develop every student's potential, helping them achieve greatness in their martial arts journey, regardless of their goals.
The sense of family at Oahu Taekwondo Center is what makes it truly special. It is a place where every student is welcomed as part of the "ohana," a Hawaiian term for family. This warm and supportive environment is what keeps members returning, even after they've moved away. T. Uyehara's review highlights this perfectly, noting that the McCutcheon family "always hold a place for me to train during my stay" when he returns home. This is the kind of loyalty and dedication that a family-run business can provide, and it is a quality that is deeply appreciated by the community. The trust that students and parents place in Masters Brian and Tamra is immense, knowing that they are not just instructors but mentors who genuinely care about their students' success and well-being.
In a world of commercialized gyms and sports clubs, Oahu Taekwondo Center stands out as an institution with a heart and a soul. It's a place where traditions are honored, where excellence is the standard, and where every member is considered family. For those in Hawaii seeking to embark on a martial arts journey, whether for fitness, self-defense, or competitive aspirations, OTC offers an unparalleled experience that is both personally rewarding and deeply community-oriented.

Oahu Taekwondo Center Reviews
I have been a member, friend, and family with the McCutcheon family since the 90’s. Brian, Tam, and I have trained and competed together until I left Hawaii for military service. Brian and Tam have built this business from scratch and has changed the martial arts community not only limited to Hawaii, but all over the world. They have built this business not only to become a family business, but teach anyone who joins the true meaning of a World Martial Artist. Every time I return home, they always hold a place for me to train during my stay. OTC is well recognized for their accomplishments, many opportunities arise such as being asked to coach the US Olympic Team. At age 50, I continue to train and always miss being side-by-side with OTC. This is a family I don’t only recommend to train with, but to have trust you or your child’s martial arts journey will become great! Brian and Tamra are still my Masters in TKD. OTC is the best academy, hands down!-T. Uyehara
August 17 · Todd Uyeharamy son started classes right before his 5th birthday. He went from crying on his first day to competing at a national level 4 years later. The instructors are very patient and great at not only teaching martial arts, but teaching the children discipline, camaraderie and respect for all. I highly recommend Oahu Taekwondo for parents who are looking to put their children in a martial arts program.
July 25 · daphnie scholtenAs a former student of Oahu Taekwondo Center, I highly recommend the place to all belt levels. It has a friendly atmosphere, as well as great instructors. With their help, I was able to go to USAT Nationals. I will end on this note, this place is the best.
September 11 · Carribean FoxAs a taekwondo student of Oahu Tkd, I must say it's an amazing experience for all ages. I started crying on the first day from running laps with thw group as warm up to once being the best in the country for nationals. They are very helpful and are patient to anyone. Ive been with them for more than about 5-6 years, and they are pretty much family.
