When considering a martial arts school in the Stockton area of California, New School Aikido offers a distinct and highly valuable experience that sets it apart from the rest. The most compelling reason to choose this school is its unwavering commitment to creating a truly safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. The fact that the school is women-owned and proudly identifies as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safespace is a powerful statement of its values. This ensures that every individual, regardless of their background, can feel secure and respected while pursuing their fitness and self-defense goals. As one review notes, the students themselves are "very respectful," which is a testament to the positive culture fostered by the instructors.
Another key factor is the quality of instruction and the unique teaching philosophy. Unlike many schools where advancement might be based on time or attendance, New School Aikido focuses on genuine "understanding and skill." This merit-based approach ensures that every student who earns a belt has truly mastered the necessary techniques and principles. The instructors, such as Sensei Cassandra, are praised for their ability to make students feel "at ease when trying out for the first time," which is a crucial element for encouraging new students to commit to their journey. The gentle and patient nature of the instructors, even with complex techniques, makes learning less intimidating and more enjoyable.
The combination of services also makes New School Aikido a great choice. While the primary focus is on Aikido, the inclusion of Taekwondo and meditation classes provides a well-rounded training experience. Students can learn a powerful defensive art while also practicing a more striking-focused style, all under one roof. The meditation component is a huge bonus, as it helps with mental discipline, stress reduction, and overall well-being. Furthermore, the accessibility of the facility, including wheelchair-friendly features and gender-neutral restrooms, ensures that everyone in the community can participate comfortably. Ultimately, New School Aikido is not just a place to train; it's a place to find a supportive community, learn valuable life skills, and embark on a transformative journey toward personal excellence.

New School Aikido Reviews
I can recommend this place to the moon and back. The sensei was one of the coolest guys I've met in a long time, and had more energy than me, someone less than half his age! A very patient and understanding environment, you're never forced to go anywhere before you're ready. Advancement is purely based on understanding and skill, nobody's going to have paid for their "black belt" duds. The only downside is the adult mat room doesn't have the greatest AC ever, so you're gonna bake in the dog days of summer.
