Kim's Karate Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents of Pennsylvania searching for a martial arts school that offers more than just physical training, Kim's Karate in York is a truly exceptional and transformative institution. Located on Mt. Rose Avenue, this school is a cornerstone of the community, revered for its authentic approach to martial arts and its deep commitment to developing the whole individual. The style of martial arts taught here is Tang Soo Do, a traditional Korean discipline that focuses on building character alongside physical skills. As one in-depth review from a family attests, the school has a "fabulous program that targets the whole individual," reinforcing its reputation as a place where positive change is not just a goal, but a guaranteed outcome.
Kim's Karate is a place where discipline, respect, and confidence are the core curriculum. The instructors, or "masters," are praised for being great with the kids, doing a "wonderful job keeping them excited about the sport." The school’s philosophy is deeply ingrained in its daily operations, with clear expectations for behavior both inside and outside the dojo. This includes a strict zero-tolerance policy for bullying and a focus on using martial arts for self-defense purposes only. The school’s emphasis on courtesy and manners is a highlight for many parents, who see positive behavioral changes in their children at home, from an increased use of "yes ma'am" and "no sir" to a newfound respect for their belongings.
The environment at Kim's Karate is inclusive and supportive, designed to meet the needs of all students, including those who may face unique challenges. As a parent of a child with ADHD and dyslexia noted, the school patiently worked with his "deficiencies," focusing instead on his positive attributes. This compassionate approach is a hallmark of the school. The curriculum, which includes a comprehensive twelve-page packet, is meticulously designed to provide a complete and enriching experience. It even includes a "chores sheet" where students can earn badges for volunteer work and acts of kindness, further connecting their training to real-world values. This focus on community and personal accountability makes Kim's Karate a truly special place for families in the York and Dallastown area.

What is worth choosing
For residents of Pennsylvania, choosing Kim's Karate is an investment in far more than just martial arts training; it's an investment in personal and family development. The most compelling reason to choose this school is its deep and authentic commitment to the whole individual. As a traditional Tang Soo Do school, it provides a structured and meaningful program that teaches not just self-defense but also invaluable life skills like discipline, respect, and perseverance. The review from a family highlights the school's impact on a child's manners, organizational skills, and overall attitude, demonstrating that the lessons learned on the mat are successfully carried into daily life. The school's policy of demoting students for a lack of respect at home or school underscores its serious dedication to these values.
The community and instructors at Kim's Karate are another key reason for its high recommendation. The masters are praised for being great with kids, making training fun while maintaining high standards. The school is known for its ability to work with students' individual needs, helping them overcome challenges and celebrate their unique strengths. This supportive environment, combined with the encouragement of manners and kindness, creates a truly positive and nurturing space for children and adults alike. The fact that a family who had to temporarily stop classes was eager to return speaks volumes about the positive experience they had.
Furthermore, the practical benefits make Kim's Karate a smart choice. The availability of a free trial class allows prospective students to experience the program firsthand before committing. The free parking lot and a variety of payment options, including mobile payments, make the administrative side of things convenient. With programs for both children and adults, and a family discount available, it's a perfect activity for the entire household. In a community where families prioritize character and positive development, Kim's Karate stands out as an outstanding institution that consistently delivers on its promise to create a better person, not just a better martial artist.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My husband and I recently moved here with our two children and have desired to find an activity for our elder child. He had previously been involved in taekwondo, however, their father has a preference for Tang-so-doo. as he discovered it whilst in the service, during a brief stay in Guam. When he saw that, it was being offered near Dallastown- he wanted our son to give it a try.Despite being raised in a relatively conservative Catholic family, our son has had difficulties since age two. Much of this has been attributed to a traumatic early premature birth, as well as our frequent moves, and his ADHD and dyslexia. I do not know how much of this that I truly agree with; He is my child and is deeply loved by our large extended family. We do our best to institute, very clear expectations, and clear rules, as well as a good balance of knowing which battles to choose and a lot of love. Needless to say, he still struggles. He began classes in November, and as often is the case, our entire household became ill and had to discontinue attendance. We do desire to restart these courses soon and wish our other children were ready for such an activity although they are simply uninterested. After the first class, which I do believe is gratis; we purchased the necessary uniform and some of the needed equipment for a male.I have to say, that with every class, he was more interested in utilizing his manners at home, which we also require, as does Kim's Karate( such as yes ma'am, no sir, excuse me, et cetera.).They have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, as well as Karate or Tang -soo - doo being used for any other purposes than instructed. They have rules and regulations of how they would like individuals to behave in their parking lot, which I certainly appreciate. They have a chores sheet whereby students can earn a badge for volunteer work, as well as random acts of kindness. Students can also be demoted for their lack of respect at home or school.Kim's Karate truly has a fabulous program that targets the whole individual, albeit religious. Their packet is approximately twelve pages long and incorporates an immense amount of effort. Many participants, in particular, the younger beginner classes appear to encompass others who possibly suffer from some of the issues akin to my sons.I want to be as objective as possible and express that my child is not the most flexible, adept, or dexterous when it comes to dance, gymnastics, or particular movement. He has difficulty with a jumping jack! Nevertheless, they dealt with his deficiencies as well as his positivities ( having used manners since speaking). There truly are not enough positives that I can accolade to Kim's Karate. When he began class here, he had difficulty with keeping his room and clothing, organized and orderly. Suddenly, he developed an appreciation and respect, particularly for his uniform and other clothing.I do think that the best results with such a program would be seen when students enroll and attend at least thrice, if not, four times weekly. I could foresee that many children would have complete and newfound respect for themselves, their peers, siblings, and parents. Kim's Karate also places a great deal of focus on one's community, which I find to be of gravies. There truly is nothing in which a child with a positive intent, who lives with parents who are modeling intentional living in the home could not benefit from attending.I have not reviewed Kim's Karate sooner, as I desired to thank the instructors first and explain our absence from classes as a temporary situational circumstance.I cannot give them a higher recommendation!
April 01 · Kitty NolandA great place for learning the discipline of karate. The masters are great with the kids, and do a wonderful job keeping them excited about the sport.
June 24 · Eric MakanoffI wanted to take a minute and apologize for a post I wrote about Kim's Karate, and to Mr. Dan Hyson. Master Hyson is extremely dedicated to his craft and an exceptional instructor. There's a reason Kim's Karate is the gold standard in martial arts. From the instructors to the place of business it truly is second to none.
September 17 · Charlie KenyonGreat karate school with great instructors. Grandmaster Kim really cares about all of this students, and wants them not only to excel in karate, but everything that they do. Everyone is very welcoming and work great with people of all levels and ages. My 2 children take classes here and absolutely love it. They have developed a new level of self confidence and discipline. My one child has ASD, and Kim’s has really transformed him and his abilities. I highly recommend Kim’s Karate for anyone looking for karate lessons for their kids or themselves.
September 11 · Louis DimitriVery small dojo but honestly the staff makes up for the limited space. My son starts their classes today, and had his first tryout yesterday and I just really appreciate how the Teacher is able to grab and maintain the students attention, and how he's able to politely but firmly redirect attention when needed. My son loved it and is very eager to go back, and I'm thrilled he's found something that he clicks with!
