★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Our experience at Island Budokan has been incredible and we are so proud to be a part of this dojo. The environment is disciplined, kind, and respectful, and there is a strong sense of community. Both of my kids have become stronger, smarter, and more confident. Not only do they love being in class, but they carry the lessons home with them and are excited to practice not only karate but also the Japanese language that they learn.Sensei Dan is truly passionate and not only teaches karate, but infuses important life lessons into each class as well as Japanese culture and history. We highly recommend Island Budokan!
May 19 · Jennifer RuzenskiAttending Island Budokan, is one of the main reasons my children (ages 7 and 9) are confident, respectful and compassionate. But these are only a few of the values that are taught/ reinforced in the Dojo. Sensei Dan Hayes' program is traditional and authentic to its core, but delivered in a manor that is fun and exciting for the kids.I also, recently joined the Dojo. At the age of 41, with zero Martial Arts experience, i can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy every minute of class. It is a mental and physical challenge, as well as, an education in an ancient art.The Dojo is an environment that allows the student to grow and better themselves in every aspect of life. I am grateful that a place like this exists and that i get to share this experience with my children.
July 29 · Brian SiegelIf you are looking for a karate school and I stress “school” not a business in which the Sensei really cares about the children and parents/guardians and has over 40 years of experience, a tremendous passion and lifelong dedication for the martial arts then look no further this is the school for you and your child.Sensei Dan Hayes is not only the best karate teacher on Long Island with credentials like Olympic Coach for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Team he teaches his students so much more about the Japanese philosophy, people, history, language and culture. He has instilled in my two sons values, self confidence, respect, discipline, not to mention the mental and physical fitness which has helped them in all areas of their lives and which has become a part of them forever. I cannot say enough positive things about this Karate school and the people there. I highly recommend Island Budokan Karate School over all the others I have researched in the area. It is a hidden gem! Check it out!
September 11 · Denise LocarniWhat is unique about Island Budokan is Sensei Dan Hayes. His philosophy is not only to teach martial arts as self defense but as a lifestyle incorporating leadership, responsibility, community service and compassion for others. As a result the students are confident, well rounded and well prepared to be in any situation. This sets his school apart from so many others who don't even begin to focus on these important aspects of martial arts.
January 15 · george zenzerovichThe dojo is an amazing place. It has taught me so much not just learning techniques, but learning about manners, respect, responsibility, effort, appreciation and how to be a good citizen. I first came to the dojo when I was 6 years old. Since then it has taught me so much, about martial arts, and about life. It has helped me become the person who I am today, and also how to defend myself, which is very important in todays society for everyone to learn. Sensei is amazing, he has more credentials than every other martial arts teacher in New York including training for the 2000 Olympics before it got cancelled. Do not come here expecting special treatment, or to be handed a belt, because you will be disappointed. Come here with an open mind, expecting to work and to learn.
