★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Let me start my saying this a small family run Dojang, and the hospitality is great. However, it lacked structure and discipline during class. Perhaps that is a matter of opinion. However, I found the ‘trainer’ to be rather strange but could not pin point why. Maybe because he has no formal training yet is always on the mat to ‘assist and train’. Once our children made mention of it, that was all I need to no longer attend.Strange vibes for lack of better words. The rest who are actual instructors, great.
January 21 · T TMy sons, ages 15 and 18 began classes here about 4 months ago. They came in beginner level having had only a small amount of previous experience in another martial art. They are truly enjoying what they perceive to be an encouraging, no pressure environment to grow and learn in. They have both advanced to orange belts, and love taking advantage of every class that they can. They attend 3 to 4 nights a week. 2 of my other children are looking forward to joining in after their sports season is over. It is very low key and accepting of all people, all levels. Totally AFFORDABLE. It's run by a very kind and genuine family, and families are encouraged to join together. I think it's a fantastic addition to our community here in Montville! Kudos Integrity... you're off to a great start!
August 14 · Kristie MilliganFIRST IMPRESSIONS:PHONE: I was looking for a semi-competitive school in the New London area with good rates & a great teacher, this seemed like it would be the place. I had reservations from my previous school, but they made me feel like there would be none of that there that of had experienced. They did inform me, however, that they are a new school.. no big deal though, everyone has to start somewhere.. right? They also said their trial classes are 6 weeks unlimited & free uniform, they offer cardio kickboxing included. Sounded really good so I rushed right over there to check it out hoping this would be it & I would sign-right-up! That was not the case..!IN PERSON:I got there & it was unlike what I expected & thought I heard on the phone! The person who I first talked to on the phone was the instructor's father, the instructor stood on the mat behind the cubby holes near the door playing with his phone & looked rather dumbfounded, kept "playing" with his pants too. The ones who really spent time listening to me & trying to convince me this was a good school were the instructors parents & a red to black belt transfer whom had started there a few weeks before. Very nice people & my impressions of their personalities was outstanding, although the physical shape of the red belt left much to be desired. In the meantime there was a 3 year old running around screaming for no reason & the instructor's father had to tell him to stop climbing on the equipment - not his mother who was there; the cardio class wasn't even starting yet & the music was blaring so loud I could no longer hear anything of what either of the parents or student was trying to tell me. All the instructor kept telling me is that he's a 4th degree black belt & a national champion, competed on 4 continents.. you've competed on 4 continents & only won in the U.S.?? Am I supposed to be impressed??Reluctantly only because of the parents & the student who spent time trying to convince me I signed their info sheet & told them that I'll very hesitantly try a few classes but I have my doubts, they all said they understood & hoped to play give them a chance. I mentioned to the instructor's wife & mentioned a comment about the 3 year old may not have been put the best.. as I was leaving the kid's mother comes out screaming & I tried to respond, she didn't want to hear me out at all. The student that had been talking to me said he was in agreement with me & I told him this may not be the school for me, that I already had my reservations & this sealed the deal.. he said that I should give it a shot & come back, I said I'd think about it.I'm a serious student looking for a serious school with structure & someone doesn't give off Bevis & Butthead vibes, I don't want to hesitate at all about my instructors or my training. I stayed talking with them for a while hoping to feel the spark I did on the phone.. but with those kinds of people giving me that kind of doubt seeing the school myself in person, I never went back. It is their loss entirely. I'd rather pay for introductory classes at a school I feel confident with rather than a school giving free classes with whom I have doubt about & would have to work at finding why I should pay them for anything.
April 24 · RebeccaA 5th degree black belt refused a peaceful arm wrestling match. I've been practicing independent martial arts for about 1 year. I feel the master may or may not be bias.
