★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Master Kim and Ms. Monica run the school hands on with discipline and fun curriculum to maintain the students’ interests. My kids have been attending these classes for the past 3 years. They have both earned their 1st degree black belt, and are working to achieve their second degree black belt. After becoming black belts their curriculum has changed drastically, focusing on self-defense, weaponry, advanced board breaking, and leadership. My kids take pride in assisting the classes.Thank you Master Kim and Ms. Monica
January 27 · Sarah DavisMy daughter has been attending Family Martial Arts Center for 4 years. In that time her poise strength, and self-confidence have all grown immeasurably. FMAC focuses on traditional Taekwondo with its emphasis on integrity, respect, and personal growth and development. Grand Master Michael Kim and Master Monica Kim are both caring and dedicated instructors. I would highly recommend FMAC to anyone interested in the martial arts.
August 06 · Adam OrmondMy kids have been coming here since they were in elementary school. They always look forward to their taekwondo classes and have a lot of fun. Master Kim is awesome and great with kids
November 24 · Charlie GoldenGreat place if you are looking for a family friendly school. Master Kim and Mrs. Monica, the owners, have been able to teach Taekwondo with integrity and dedication in a disciplined, respectful and skillful way, and yet making it fun for younger kids. My son has been attending since he was 3 1/2 and he is now becoming a focused and confident young man. My daughter, 9, has just started and is really enjoying her classes. After 20 years doing Taekwondo on and off, I also joined the school 5 years ago. Master Kim gave me the motivation and the desire to push myself. I also got back in shape in the process which was good. Taekwondo is now, thanks to Master Kim, part of my life again. My son and I have been going to the same classes three times a week: we are enjoying mastering our craft and spending quality time as a family doing what we love. We have also started Kumdo (Kendo). We like it a lot and cannot wait to be sparring. We feel very lucky to be part of this school and learn from Master Kim who is really experienced in Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo (Kendo).
August 03 · Cedric C.For the new year (2017), I resolved to learn something interesting. Something that could allow me to practice focus. When I was a kid, I practiced Shotokan. I did not progress far enough, so I set out to look for a Shotokan dojo to relearn something I liked. But, because life is varied, I couldn't find a dojo that resonated with me. Rather, FMAC kept popping up in my searches and saw they have a Kumdo/Kendo class. I decided to visit.I had an invigorating discussion with Master Kim. In our discussions, we talk about culture. He, as an American, spent his formative years in Korea, where the culture was hard work. Korea has little resources, except for its people. They believe human capital is their resource. The harder they work, the better things will be. This philosophy is analogous to the American Puritan work ethic. At that moment, I was sold - this was going to teach me something new and allow me to practice focus. There's a huge difference between Shotokan and Kumdo/Kendo. Rather than quick punching, I'm learning lightning strikes with the juk-to/shinnai. Instead of powerful kicks, I'm learning graceful elegance- Master Kim said in Kumdo, you must look beautiful in life and in death. In lieu of blocking incoming attacks, I'm learning efficiency in movement. It's all very new and strange to me, but I am enjoying it immensely.Be warned, if he asks you if you want to learn in the normal or Korean way and you choose the Korean way, then he will yell at you in Korean and up the game. For example, there is an exercise called Hurigi (one step head cut) that you do in repetitive quick succession (like a forward jumping jack with a juk-to head strike). One must be able to do this 300 times normally, but I opted for the Korean way, so I must do it 500 times without stopping. If my form is off, I have to start over. I chose the harder path because I'm a glutton for punishment. Then again, when he nods and quietly says, "good", you know you're on the right track and doing great.I like Master Kim and this dojang because of its philosophy. Master Kim teaches martial arts, but he doles out hard work in his lessons.
