★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Delgado Family has been to good to us but unfortunately we had to say goodbye. Debbie always on top of every need and instructor Sam and Mickey always energetic for the kiddos and Sifu Ray kicking butt with his talent .. we will definitely try to be back
April 06 · Jacinto MerazDo not waste your time here. Jujitsu is missing from the Gaylord Method that is being taught here. The reason I mention this is because Japan JJ is part of the founding of this art and is apart of Kajukenbo. You want real Kajukenbo, Find the “Emperado or original Method” of this style. Also look at YouTube “The Black Belt Dojo” in Kuwait. That is hard style Kajukenbo. Just so you can see what it looks like for reference purposes.Too many improper fake belts in his belt system designed to waste your time and money. Any belt with a colored stripe through it, is not apart of the original belt system of this art.Improper black belts without proper embroidery and colors not being used if you ever manage to make it to black belt under Ray. Ray himself is not wearing a proper 5th degree black belt. Also not wearing proper Teacher gi top with red lining that you see in the KSDI lineage schools. For each new degree you get promoted, There has to be a new black belt with embroidery given. Not a recycling of the belts with red duct tape. This (red tape) is meant to buy time until your new black belt with red embroidery bars is issued.Delgado will rarely promote anyone to black belt. Will show favoritism and sand bagging to hold his students back purposely.Pushed away all founding students who wanted to stay and help Ray with extra instructors.Does not uphold the standards of the Kajukenbo system passed down from the founder. Look at YouTube “McDojo”.You are better off training in Boxing, Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu (Japanese style), or Tang Soo Do.If that is too much to train in, Then find Original Method Kajukenbo. Kajukenbo style is heavily based on Tang Soo Do.For the Black belts that were promoted under “Ray” You have the freedom to do anything you want. Including replacing your black belt when it becomes worn down over time, or upgrade to a bigger size if the one you received is to small or short. If you are no longer at Delgados Martial arts, Then you can find a KSDI school and join them.Once accepted, You can get the proper embroidery color added to your belt through their recommendations. You can also join the seminars throughout the year hosted by the KSDI, You can do the Kajukenbo tournaments wherever hosted.Once you take this step, Ray will slam the door on you forever, So consider this your divorce from his school. That is a sign of a bad teacher as well.I wish Ray wasn’t this way. He truly was an excellent teacher in his prime. But the martial arts world is full of these types I.E. business men that wear martial arts Gi’s versus a real martial arts teacher that wants to see his students succeed well into senior ranks and retain students for the long haul.In short, Ray is a dream killer who will make you hate the martial arts world once you wake up to the truth of it all.He only makes a few black belts to keep for appearances. No one holds him accountable, So he plays by his own rules. Do not make the mistake of thinking Ray is the Martial arts world. He isn’t.If you are a serious practitioner and want to do this long term. Avoid this school.Want to be a fighter, Find Striking arts. Want a good Martial arts education look up Jesse Enkamp on YouTube. So decide for yourself what path you want to go down.Do not waste 5 to 10 years of your life with Ray.Ray promoted the worst student of his school from 1998 to black belt. Guy couldn’t even kick above his knees. Lacked talent, and skill. That alone shows you how favoritism works with Ray. Disgusting what I saw years later. Unreal.I am and was a long time student. Teachers in Japan will promote you to black belt with a language barrier faster than Ray will.Get your black belt somewhere else by earning it from a fair teacher. Today’s Martial Arts world is a strange place.Watch “Best of the best” 80s movie if you want to see how training used to be. Today’s Karate is the new Chuck E Cheeses.Ray should have been 8th degree black belt by now. Which is Grandmaster. Ray missed out on 7 black belt ranks.
February 03 · Kylie KniffinSifu Delgado taught me Kajukenbo when I was in high school, from 2000-2003. The lessons he taught me have stuck with me my entire life. He used to tell us how his fighting style helped his former students who joined the military, and I always thought it was just bragging, but then I went and joined the US Army in 2006 as an MP and it was true. My muscle memory and reflexes were still ingrained in me. I had been wanting to tell him about this since then, but I never knew how to get ahold of him, since I moved away from Vallejo. If anyone can give me an email address to contact him directly, I'd love to speak with him again and thank him for guiding me and not giving up on me when I was an angsty teenager.
