★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Background: I am a single parent and need some additional ideas on how to get my seven-year-old boy to act better while with me. My son is an only child in my household, and his father gets him every other weekend. My problem: He was not listening to me, and he was not focusing on school. I was running out of ideas on how to get him on track. He would always listen to his father but pushed my buttons. He did not care if I took away his electronics or toys as punishment. I was stumped on how to get my son, on the right track. One day my son asked to go to karate, so I researched or tried different karate schools in Beaver Dam. The schools either did not respond to my call or had poor reviews, so I denied his request at the time. One day, I drove past Columbus Black Belt Academy with my son, and he asked again. I told him we would check out this taekwondo school, to see if it is a good fit. As soon as my son entered Sensei James Dojang he immediately felt comfortable and was listening.AMAZING RESULTS SEEN: First parent teachers conference of the second grade, had some undesirable results. I told him he will lose all his electronics, for the rest of the school year, if I hear any more unfavorable remarks. It really did not faze him at all, so I was unsure how to get him to pay attention and focus better. We walked into Columbus Black Belt Academy, and he instantly listened to Sensei James. I take him to classes anywhere from 3 to 7 times a week and I have to say it has made a HUGE difference in my son’s: actions, focusing, and schooling. His second parent teachers conference was AMAZING. His teacher had zero concerns with his behavior, THANK YOU SENSEI, I APPRECIATE YOU AND MRS. G (awesome duo)! He listens better . . . FINALLY, a RELIEF and he is focusing A LOT better (do not get me wrong, Sensei James still catches him, but not as much).Thank you, Sensei James, for working with and never giving up on or into the kids!
April 08 · Karisha “Kari” WrightEverything about this place amazing! They become family! My family is so happy we found Columbus Black Belt Academy! I can't wait to continue to see all the amazing things that my boys get to learn and experience!!! 100 percent recommend
April 08 · Kelsey KeelGae and Sensei James do a marvelous job of creating an inclusive environment for kids and people of all abilities. They are welcoming and supportive of their students entire families while instilling responsibility, developing personal discipline, and teaching effective skills in self-defense. Their month to month contracts are fairly transparent and the classes are very affordable, especially in comparison to some of the larger dojos in the area. They are always willing to answer questions or work with customers to find payment dates or classes that work with your schedule. My daughter started at the dojo in June 2020, with my son and husband joining several months later, and now include myself. With every class and test my family completes, their confidence increases. My husband teaches BJJ occasionally and thoroughly enjoys working side-by-side with Sensei James. This small but mighty dojo goes above and beyond to personally practice the 5 tenants of taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit-- all of which is reflected in the students they teach.
April 14 · Jen Doe (Down the Rabbithole)My 8 year old son started taking classes here 4 months ago. It has been a wonderful experience for both him and our family. He is now more focused, motivated and confident. His school teachers have expressed how much better he is doing in school. He has started setting goals and has really focused in on achieving them. Sensei is passionate about the students' success, not just in martial arts, but in their growth as individuals. Columbus Black Belt Academy has been a blessing and I cannot say enough about the positive impact they have had on our family.
May 19 · Craig HenricksonVery family friendly DOJO. We appreciate the inclusiveness of all ages and the support the kids receive. As well as, the values they teach. Our daughter loves going to class. Everyday we go, she cannot wait to see Ms G and Sensei. Kids in communities need a place like this. Where they can go to learn to never give up and push towards their goals, and reach them. And how to be successful in everything they do.There is an amazing amount of support.
