August 16 · cynthia runyonMy sons are currently attending the 8-week summer warriors program. What a great deal! We can see the benefit of the class in our every day life. It's motivation for good behavior and something they look forward too each week. The staff and instructors are so hands-on! Amazing school!
July 29 · Keshia ThurmanLast night, I was made aware of the dishonorable, flagrant and extremely disrespectful actions by one Mr. Costley, the chief instructor at CFMAF. These events happened to my 14-year-old daughter who was attending a youth group event as a volunteer for Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention, where Mr. Costley and other CFMAF members put on a demonstration that followed the presentation from her group. While her group were waiting to facilitate the next activity, they were seated as bystanders during Mr. Costley’s martial arts demonstration. Apparently, to set the stage for his demonstration, this man made comments about how “females need to experience pain too” and how prospective students can learn to “wield power”. He then approached their table and WITHOUT ASKING FOR OR RECEIVING CONSENT, grabbed MY DAUGHTER by the arm and proceeded to squeeze his hand into a “pressure point”, causing her great pain, for his “demonstration”. She was understandably shaken, as were the students who witnessed the interaction.Immediately after, Mr. Costley turned to another young person in her group who was audibly saying, “Do not touch me.” Despite this CLEAR refusal, Mr. Costley grabbed the student, pulled him from his chair, and in the process knocked the chair to the ground. Observers reported that the student appeared to be injured. One of her teammates was so affected by witnessing this incident that they experienced a panic attack. Not that I need to justify anything, but I will let it be known that my daughter is a tough girl and not dramatic. In fact, when relaying these events to me, she very much tried to downplay it and had bitten her tongue during the events because she didn’t want to “cause a scene”. After some silence on the way home, she became more and more upset, and she cried as she told me she felt “manhandled” and “humiliated”. Her volunteer group leader also corroborated the events, and to say I am enraged is an understatement. My daughter‘s boundaries were VIOLATED by a complete stranger and there was no apology whatsoever.Shame on you, Mr. Costley. Your actions go completely against what a good dojo should represent…honor, respect & humility. To anyone considering enrolling your child at this practice, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.
August 16 · Brett SolonMy daughter has been attending CFMAF (Calvary Martial Arts and Fitness) for nearly four years now, and I can say without hesitation that this school has had a profoundly positive and life-changing impact on her—both emotionally and physically. When we first came to CFMAF, we were in a very vulnerable place. My daughter had recently experienced a traumatic sexual assault, and as parents, we were searching not only for healing but also for empowerment. She expressed the desire to learn how to protect herself—so that she could feel safe, strong, and in control of her body and her boundaries. That's what led us to CFMAF.From the moment we walked in, the instructors treated her with such dignity, care, and respect. They didn’t just teach her martial arts; they nurtured her spirit. They created an environment where she felt seen, heard, supported, and most importantly—safe.Fast forward to today, she is now a brown belt and a completely transformed young woman. Her confidence has soared. Her posture is strong, her voice is firm, and she carries herself with a level of self-assurance that every parent hopes their child will grow into. She now knows—not hopes or wishes—that she can protect herself if ever faced with a threatening situation again. As a parent, there is no greater comfort than knowing your child feels secure when they're not in your presence. The team at CFMAF goes beyond just teaching punches and kicks. They instill values like discipline, respect, awareness, and mental toughness. They empower children from the inside out, and the skills my daughter has learned extend far beyond the mat. She’s more focused, resilient, and self-respecting in all areas of life.CFMAF is not just a martial arts school. It’s a family. A place where children can grow, heal, thrive, and become warriors in every sense of the word.To the instructors: thank you. You’ve given my daughter tools that will serve her for the rest of her life. You've helped restore something that was taken from her—and replaced it with strength, dignity, and confidence. We are forever grateful. If you are a parent looking for a place where your child can be empowered, challenged, and supported in a safe and deeply respectful environment, look no further than CFMAF.
